Or you could try the dangerous overland trip from Galkayo to Hiiraan
AbdiWahab252, why are you saying positive things about AS? You're supposed to say only negative things about them.

Thanks for the tips. BTW, this is all just hypothetical, I'm just trying to assess my chances of entering Somalia safely. :?

AS is not my problem, at least they are organized and thus predictable, and I can pay fees or talk to them out of a situation, like I would with a standard Galguduud-to-Awdal checkpoint where I'd be dealing with traditional/semi-civilized Somalis. There is a difference between isbaaro and professional checkpoint, the former is unpredictable and the latter is simple. My appearance may be a problem; I'm holocaust-skinny but I have light skin, so I'm hoping my skeletal frame is convincing enough if not the macwiis I'd probably wear everywhere--but I'm borderline anorexic so that should be more than enough cover.

Xamar is home to like a million different armed factions. Clans + AU + TFG + Warlords + all sorts of other random shit I don't even know. That's the problem. If I could get to Ceelasha, I'd be a free man. From there to Kismayo there are no checkpoints aside from those belonging to AS, which makes traveling a lot easier. Problem is, I just don't trust being in Xamar. It would be excellent if an airport in Baydhabo or Kismayo was connected from Djibouti via the main airlines.
first get out of your moms basement, then you can talk about hamar iyo kismaayo

Monk,

Just land at the airport and have someone from Ceelasha Biyaha pick you up. You will be out of TFG held Mog in less than 1 hr once you leave the airport gates. No one ever stopped me at a check point in TFG Xamar and cruise around town in a Mark 2 (Camry knock off) with no problems. Perhaps mooryaan knows mooryaan.

As for the AS check points, unless you have female passengers or don't stop to pray you shouldn't have any problems. Beware of some lawless terrain in AS zones that are result of a power vacuum.

Arabmtu,

AS is an awful diabolical organization with a code: thou shall not steal. There are a minority of AS who are in it for the cash and will steal but do it very discretely.

I still hate AS though but tuugnimo is a the "T" in TFG.

It's positive to be objective.

AW252,

My only connection in Xamar area was a cousin of mine from Kista who had an HG mom in Ceelasha recently, I'm not sure if he's still there but he used to travel a lot between Xamar and Kista for his work. That dude was everywhere, perhaps I can put him to good use, now that you've mentioned the idea of a local contact.

The only AS or former AS areas that worried me were (still are) the most worrisome areas of the Somali geography; the Jubba river regions. I have no clue how my primitive Ogaden cousins survived in those far south regions, I used to hear stories about cagdheer villagers being eaten by Bantus all the time. :-O --that place is a straight-up no-man's land. The Bantus there are so influential that all of my reer abti now revere a Bantu Sufi "saint."

You can understand why I have my reservations about entering from Kenya into Kismayo, that whole area just isn't right. I may have to tap my connections in Xamar, I may have many more contacts there than I'm aware of.

Xamar does not equal the south. I'm okay with the south, I'm just not okay with Xamar.

Its like saying - if you're not okay with Afghanistan, stay out of Asia. :|

Xamar is just one place, 45 miles squared. That's it. Somalia south of Xamar is roughly 100,000 miles squared. So, yes, there is much for me to see. Lots and lots of south to see.

How is is the same am not telling you dont go to Africa if you cant go to Somalia am not even telling you dont go to all parts of Somalia :? Xamar might not the south but its instability scares you and the whole south is in similar situation. But if you are not bothered by the lack of security and you just want to avoid xamar for being xamar then good luck with finding alternative route.
