He can ask for a referendum, he can lobby for them and that wont be hard now that the FM is from SL. There is a very good chance of them getting independence with a referendum.
That is not how it works. He was not elected as the president of Somalia to advocate for Somaliland's referendum and balkanize the country. He just doesn’t have the power. The Somali parliament and the Somali people are the ones that will make the decision not one foreign mister from Somaliland and a corrupted president who is extremely unpopular. What would he gain from it? It is not as easy as you think my friend.
As someone else already mentioned, the international community needs a reason to grant a country an independent status. The United States, and most developed nations in the word are not going to get involved in something that this not in their best interest and Somaliland isn't. Somaliland is hardly better than the rest of Somalia. The only think they have that southern Somalia doesn’t is the most sought after commodity; which is peace and stability. It is undeveloped region and that is entirely dependent on foreign aid. The world is already burdened by Somalia, why would they want to create and other dirt poor country that is going to depend on hands outs from them?
It is that easy to get a referendum, Tibet, Taiwan, and Kurdistan and numerous other wealthy region would have been a nation by now.

One good thing about Waqooyia getting recognition is that dooro jaahiliin such as dhulubahante and useless wasakhgalis will be ruled by isaaq.
I asked some fiqishini brethren weither isaaqland is better for them or dhulubahanteland aka dhillobahanteland is better, they said : we know isaaq doesnt love hawiye nor do we love them but they dont treat us unjustly nor do we treat them unjustly in our forefathers lands(Xamar, Marka
), as for dhilloyinka they are pro-faqash regime they are ignorant nomads full of extreme hatred, when marexaar fled Xamar it was only dhillos who stayed fighting for a regime which is already destroyed.
Then i said: so be it, let Isaaqland be recognized and dominate the faqash clans. A recognized Isaaqland means Hawiye got 99 problems but Faqash aint one

Somaliland recognition will never happen!!! Somaliland doesn't have friends at the international level. Who would want to listen to a fat 99 years Siiil-yanyo? The london Somali conference was really an eye opener with ceeb-yanyo stranded outside in the rain
