gurey, why would we accept such a deal? We do not recongize the borders of S/land and it would be disingenious of us to leave the fate of the eastern regions to a majority vote? I don't want the union that bad to accept such a deal, especially as the fate of seccision will go more towards Somalia's side then Somaliland's.

I rather have any serious talks be held for at least 5-6 years, until we have an elected administration, and fully fledgiling federated states, and functioning government. No more hasty unions.

So how do you plan on getting a union?
Somaliland would never accept being just another federal state, most somalis dont get the full meaning of a federal state,
we do because it directly clashes with our interests.
You expect us to compromise without giving up anything in return?
and you expect the international community to do all the work for you?

they already said they wont get involved, there is no change in respects to how they deal with Somaliland.
and you will not get 5 to 6 years your government is under as much pressure as Somaliland to solve this issue now.

This issue is going to be a very difficult one. Before anything serious can even be done, we have to demarcate the borders, and not take the others words for it. Then, we can talk about forming some kind of union. For any real negotiations to take place, we must know what the other really has and what they can rightfully claim. It seems to me, given this issue is being pushed so early into our rebirth, shows us the hopelessness of Somaliland's situation. Why push for a union when we barely have a union with Puntland or the rest of the regions? Better caution than haste. Somaliland at this stage would, in my view, dealing with a new fledgling government, they being a well established one, comes in their stronger, fighting for the best interests of their people. Now, I can't knock that, I respect it, but considering I'm on this side, I'd prefer if more voices in the country were represented in our government, it could better gauge our long term interests. That can only happen if we have some time. This issue is to strong for this administration to tackle, and they should put it aside.

both sides are pressured to make a deal, we show that we are negotiating in good faith.
You are counting on continued isolation for somaliland for a few years till your government can talk from a position of strength
its not going to happen because your paymasters demand otherwise.
and remember the pressure is going to be much stronger on moqadishu's side because its a creature under the control of the international community, while somaliland is sovereign but under the strong influence of certain countries.

in other words, they use threats and incentives to get somaliland to do what they want and we find it difficult to resist most of the time, while they issue orders to you and you have no choice in obeying .

If you manage to find a way to stall these talks which i doubt it possible, and if you manage to grow into a ful fledged government
and get rid of Amisom in a couple of years, you will be in the position that you think you are right now.
