The fact remains that 70% of black inmates are serving time for drug related offenses, although the percentage of African American drug users mirror that of Caucasians. Now factor in the rates of disenfranchisement, broken and/or single parent led homes, diminished employement opportunities, recidivism rates, and in many states, losing one's right to welfare, housing, and financial loans (student or otherwise). Despite creating an under-class, more prisons are being built, more businesses use prison labor as it is more cost-effective than outsourcing, politicians are re-elected because they threw x amount of people (typically black) in prison, police department's budgets swell, and complementary businesses get their piece of the pie by providing an array of goods and services (surveillance, weapons, gadgets, etc). Which reminds me of Marilyn Frye's writings on oppression and her bird cage analogy:

Islam is also one of the fasting growing religions in the world, especially within prisons. It's a shame you don't recognize the systemic racism that has essentially led imprisoned African Americans (and others) to Islam.
