the free syrian army (fsa) consist of mainly defected syrian soldiers. those syrian soldiers that defected managed to bring with them the bmps and tanks that were in their possession. plus, during the fighting, the fsa took control of many military barracks, looting military hardware, weapons, tanks, etc and using it against the syrian military.
