Re: Ceerigaabo vs Burtinle - 2014
That is from 2006. Galkacyo and all towns with in Puntland have a very high rate of urbanization.
BTW three subclans live in Galkacyo but two of those subclans have other large cities.
Even the satellite pictures, which are taken every three years in Somalia, are out of date.
Let us wait for the next Satellite update and see how they compare then.
Galkacyo is a hub between the south and the north, it is already as large if not larger than Burco, and has a much better strategic position.
Burco lacks the infrastracture, no airport, so it will be left behind.

Re: Ceerigaabo vs Burtinle - 2014
Not surprising given it's location. It's sits on a vital trade route and if you follow the banks of the river for about 30km on either end of the city, you'll notice that it's doted with numerous smaller settlements a few km apart from each other. The city serves as a nerve center for a densely populated area of the region.thegoodshepherd wrote:Geoseven have you seen how large beledweyne is?? Very surprising to say the least. It is equal in size to galkcyo or to burco

The imagery date of Galkayo is 2012, there is even a partial coverage (2013) one, what update are you waiting for?
If anything when
Burco gets updated from 2010 to 2014 in my source you will notice a huge difference because a lot of new houses and hotels were built in the
last 4 years. Galkayo doesn't have a "airport" it is just a dusty airstrip, Burco got one recently as well. In terms of infrastructure Burco has lots
of good bridges and wide paved roads that a city should have. It is ahead of Galkayo in most aspects.

Re: Ceerigaabo vs Burtinle - 2014
youre talking about 30km?? the entire webi shebelle is the most densely populated in all of Somalia. Following the river from Kebri dahar to beledweyne to jowhar to afgoye, I could not believe how many farms houses towns, villages there were. There are at least Four million people on the river basin

Re: Ceerigaabo vs Burtinle - 2014

Kkkk look how beledweyne is walle proof enough that the north has very low population no southerner talks about baydhabo or beledweyne yet those two cities r larger than all towns in pland and sland except hargeisa yaab wallahi afgoye and jowhar are even more populated and no southerner even talks about those places and these guys r showing tuulos kkkkkkkkk

It is still not a proper airport.
Not much difference between "rough asphalt" and dirt one.

Hargeisa is a proper paved airport, not like Galkayo. Nothing to compare here.

Fair enough, if we were to look at pop figure estimates only, we'd have to look at the yardstick for a city. Somalia only has a population of 10 million at the most. In a country of size you'd relatively have to lower the boundaries of the conditions for a city status. Mogadishu is an extreme case as its the only city in Somalia that surpasses 1 million, Hargesia isnt very far away to 1 million; would it be fair to make 1 million the condition in which a town becomes a city? if we took this route we'd only have one city in the country. Similarly Hargesia and Moqdishu are the only places which surpass 500,000. I think the conditions for a city would have to be lowered if we are purely measuring by population. In my opinion atleast 200,000 would be fair.GeoSeven wrote:Yep, pretty much relative knowledge. It's not factual or categorically accurate like you've stated. I'm just going by the pop figure estimates and the assumed complexity of facilities or infrastructure in place.Estarix wrote:You are just ascribing statuses based on relative knowledge, it would be unfair to compare the US for example which is a much larger country than Somalia and use its relative conditions and use the same for Somalia which is much smaller. City status is handed down by the government of a country; it could be no larger than your typical town in the United Kingdom but at the same it could have building, financial strength, political influence that grants it city status.GeoSeven wrote:Major City - Muqdisho
City- Hargeisa
Mid sized towns- Kismayo, Gaalkacyo, Baidoa, Bosaso, Borama, Beledweyne and Burco
Everywhere else in Somalia is either a small town or village.
Garowe can be given city (mainly because it capital and governental status) despite the fact that the urban area only has a population of 70,000. Case in point, Hum has a city status despite the fact that it only has 23 people live there.
