The map really puts it in perspective. Chatham
Surprising isn't it?
Somaliland without the eastern regions is about 40% smaller.
Warsangeli and Dhulbahante sit on a very large territory. There is a clear cut border between the Isaaq and the Harti in Northern Somalia. Very easy to separate these two communities.

what kind of elections do you think gonna happen in 2016?
I think it will be either another term of the dreaded 4.5 power sharing election or two to three years extension for the government and the parliament to prepare the country for popular elections. I don't think there is a third viable option available for you.
no extensions. this time the mps will be selected by their peoples not by their elders then we will have a new parliament who will vote for the next president. There r too many unsolved issues regading how "all the people" will vote as the SFGs domain is limited to some areas. every mp should be elected publically by a number of people from all the sectors in his region through the independent electoral commission and the international observers.

I think the reason the border is so clear cut is because it is mostly nomads at those borders. The main Harti towns in British Somaliland are all fairly far from the border, so there is little to no urban-urban contact.
I think that it may be a good thing because holding a referendum should be straight forward compared to Mudug for example.

Maps mean squat unless they reflect the realities on the ground:
1. 70% of former Italian Somaliland are ruled by A>S.
2. 80% of former British Somaliland is ruled by JSL.
3. AS are active in every province in former Italian SOmaliland.
4. 0% of these mamuul can stand on their own two feet without foreign assistance.

" Nowhere else in southern and central Somalia is there a clear clan organizational principle such as that of the Harti, whereby related sub-clans have created a durable coalition around mutual territorial and political interest"

Shepeard, it hit me again after seeing that map with all the regions defined always knew the clan borders but chatham just did a nice map Waaqoyi harti own land similar, comparatively to the isaaq in their region (wg and the parts of gobols). The referendum in the future shouldn't be to hard along with the demarcation between the regions of pl and sl in Somalia. It'll be easy because as you said their is clear cut border in Waaqoyi, where its clear who owns which land.....
Mudug isn't problem, the southern border of Puntland region is clear.
These borders should not be militarizsed, just be like borders like normal regular gobols an states......
Chatham et al should next do a Harti Line
