Suldaan Xirsi Qani was the last HY great sultan, he was a pillar of the SNM. When Afweyne took over he invited all the major Somali sultans, Xirsi Qani was offended and refused the invitations, he said its for the sultan to be the host not the guest, I sultan Xirsi sultan Madar Wil not be the guest to the grandson of Bare Garabay , when we killed him on Wardheer we didn't even know what Mareexaan was and now his grandson inviting us. BARE was Afweynes grandfather killed by the h.y in the hawd.

Hadaba don't divert my thread masaajidka ciyaarta ka daa.

who is the legitimate H.Y Sultan? The reason im asking is, there was this technically 'Ayeeyo' of mine Diga Xirsi in Qabridahar and she was the sister of the H.Y Sultan. Now im hearing two rival guys both claim to be the real Sultan

Qolodii reer amaan ee darawiishta xooleeyay sidee ba saldanada habar yoonis looga wareegey?

Nur amaan the son of the great xirsi amaan was the only somali foe that ina cabdille xassan or the mad mullah as the britsh refered to him as feared. Nuur amaan was no xirsi amaan but he was still regarded as the most powerful of the "Garxajis chiefs" as the British refered to him.

From this poem of the mad mullah we can see how he had respect for nuur amaan the Isaaq chief that funded the darawiish movement

Nuur Axmed Amaan was the nephew of Xirsi Amaan , when Xirsi Amaan was killed in 1879 by the Baha-Diiriye+baha-sugulle alliance , the H.Y wanted to declare his brother Ismaaciil Amaan as a sultan , shortly before he became a sultan Ismaaciil Amaan died in an Ogaadeen war. The H.Y sent for Nuur Axmed Amaan an Axmediya Mullah in Xaaxi , he didn't wanted to be a sultan he wanted to continue his Mullah life. However the H.Y chose him as a sultan , then the Baha-Diiriye brought Cawad Suldaan Diiriye ( Nuur's great uncle and Xirsi's uncle) , the sultanate turned into reer Amaan Vs Baha-Diiriye, finally Nuur was chosen and Cawad lost and Cawad was compensated 100 camel. Cawad Diiriye despite taking 100 camel he refused to step down and declared himself along some h.y as a sultan in Aroori and Burco region, while Nuur was a sultan for most H.Y west of Oodweyne. A civil war ensued , hundreds got killed it took some 11 years , around 1892 Cawad was killed in an Ogadeen raid. and from 1892 to 1897 Nuur Axmed Amaan was the only sultan. In 1897 Madar Xirsi Suldaan Diiriye ( Xirsi Suldaan Diiriye and Cawad Suldaan Diiriye are brothers) a nephew of Cawad and a Baha-Diiriye declared himself a sultan , he sought support and propaganda and he went to the Tariiqa at Qoob-Fardood and gave lots of camels and food to Ina Cabdulle Xasan ( then just a mullah , this was before the Daraawiish) the Mullah and his followers declared him a H.Y sultan, Nuur ignored him for couple years, and in 1899 February or March Sultaan Nuur witnessed the incident attributed to the Mullah. The children with the catholic mission at Berbera , Sultaan Nuur inquired as to their qabiil and they answered " we are the qabiils of the Father" , he inquired their name and they mentioned Christian biblical names like John, James etc. Sultaan Nuur propgated that incident and called for the mission to stop its missionary effoerts , the news through letters reached most of the Tariiqas , be it the Mad Mullah tariiqa, Xaji Muuse of Xaaxi tariiqa , Sheikh Axmediya tariiqa and Sheekh Madar's Qaadiriya tariiqa at Hargaysa, The Dervish struggle began and the Mad Mullah on his behave joined the effort and sent letters to most clan chiefs among them Sultan Diiriye Xasan of the ciidagale.

Nuur and the Mullah and few other sultans like the Ogaden Makaahiil sultan agreed to collect arms and men and declare war , throughout 1899-1901 the Dervish was in the making. On july 1899 Sultan Nuur announce a H.Y grand assembly at Oodweyne to convince the H.Y to join the war, the Isxaaq in particular and the the reer Sugulle refused his cause and Xaaji Muuse ( reer abokor) the Mullah of xaaxi campaigned the Habar Yoonis to refuse Nuur's cause, once Madar found this opportiniuty Madar joined Xaaji Muuse and the other camp. Sultaan Nuur with his followers from the west left for Burco and joined the H.Y burco who allied himself with the cause and in August 1899 at a grand assembly in Burco the dervish cause was declared. Make no mistake Nuur was the father of the movement , there is a reason he has a huge shrine/tomb at Taleex.

In 1901 the H.Y declared Madar a sultan at oodweyne , some of the H.Y refused to give up on Nuur and waited years , when finally they gave up Madar for a time was dethroned and Jaamac Xirsi Amaan was declared a H.Y sultan by the British government in 1902. Somehow Sultan Jaamac was lost to history and few years later Madar became the undisputed Sultan , when Nuur died around 1907 in Taleex , his son Doolaal sultaan Nuur was declared a successor in the dervish camp, nobody knows the end of Doolaal , most likely he was excuted years later by the Dervish or died there, Doolaal was the last reer Amaan sultan.

That's the story how Madar a baha-Diiriye became a sultan and the reer Amaan lost the title.

Gartay so nuur was the nephew of xirsi amaan and not his son.

By the signinging of the treaty of ilig-daldala between the British and the darawish there was hostilities between the reer amaan sultanate (now part of the British protectorate) and the darawiish so what was doolal expecting to achieve by being in the darawiish camp, was he expecting a return of the favour by ina cabdille xassan that suldaan nuur did for the darawiish when he was alive ?

The treaty of illig was signed by four top dervish they were sultaan Nuur and his brother Xirsi Axmed Amaan and tow other sultans.

Doolaal joined the dervish along his father and Axmed Amaan family in 1899. When his father died he declared himself the h.y sultan in Eyl, his cousins the sons of Xirsi Axmed Amaan after the battle of Jidbaale arrived as a fleeing refugees to Boosaso . Both families fought most of the battles from 1899 to 1904.

I don't recall a conflict with the reer Amaan, only the dervish and Magan Amaan the uncle of Nuur had some issues with the dervish, it appears so from a letter by the Mullah to Sawyn in 1906 complaining about Magan Amaan.

This is the last tow pages of the Pestalozza agrmeent December 20, 1905,
Sultaan Nuur and his brother Kila Ahmed ( most likely Kila is a nickname of Xirsi Ahmed Amaan) , Ugaas Diiriye Arabe and Ugaas Ciise Farek. Those four signed the agreement with Pesatlozza . Now the question is who are the other tow ?
