I see it differently because I'm soon 19 years old , I am younger and I wasn't practicing until around 2 years ago. I never really grew up with a father figure so I wasn't really connected with our people. So I would act madoow myself, and since I was "good looking" / tall / muscular I never had problems attracting girls at all. The bashing of Somalis was really high so being connected to Somalis was a big no and I hated the idea of marrying a Somali. Then I became practicing and alienated even more from Somali culture and wanted to act like an Caraab. But probably a bit over a year ago after visiting back home is when I started to love our people and wanted to act as a real Somali in my daqaan and everything.

So then of course I wanted to marry a Somali after. Some of the things though that I do read online especially on Twitter by Somalis really wreck my confidence at times though. Regardless of how well you are doing in school (alhamdulilah i will be starting mechanical engineering this year at a top 10 university), or how good looking you are, it will have an affect on you. I never ever had such problems in real life oddly enough but damn I get annoyed when I see this crap about reverts / somali women and I feel offended. Or how the Somalis put these Ajnabis on the pedestal. And the worst part is that I don't see it among Pakistanis or Arabs, but only Somalis. We are supposed to be proud people. What happened to the Somali diaspora?

I wouldn't give a crap if it was someone completely alienated from their culture and or wasn't religious, but it is Somalis who have the dhaqan and also wear abaya/hijab that do it as well that annoys me. I don't really give a crap about how people view me individually and if I am good looking and highly attractive or whatever, it is the fact that this is a communal problem and their general views overall are very poisonous. At my college, all of the successful and hard working people who are going to the top universities are all Somali boys. So this idea that Somalis are all "failures" etc is only something I have seen online personally. The younger generation are all doing well for themselves and the older generation were 1st generation refugees that grew up in Somalia who escaped from war, so you cannot blame them.

People making threads of a person that married out is just sad though and it reeks insecurity.
