Mike, thanks for the long explanation I think, but I meant madow as a skin color, it doesn't matter if you are light skinned, or dark skinned, at the end of the day, to an average cadaan person, you're still considered a madow "person of color". BTW madow doesn't only apply to African Americans. As Somalis we are madow and considered such by others.

When I say madow, I mean it towards non-Somali madow people.

Somalis usually say look at that adoon or jareer. But others say Madow.

But Madow is another word for "black"

When I see something dark I say "Oh thats madow"

You're either madow (dark) or cadan (white)

Waa simple. I use madow as a skin color.

I call AFrican Americans, adoon or jareer.

when I'm describing someone who has a dark skinned, I just say so and so waa madow, mabye that is just me.

Mike there's no separating "US"..................I feel much closer to people from Nigeria then say "Yeman", So it's sad to see somalis ( I am not pointing fingers here) that actually think they are superior the our fellow bantus relatives and connect them selfs with white people that share absalutely nothing with us!..................it's embarrassing man!!

You are just a mindless animal. This is completely an indirect target at me, I've yet to say I have any relevancy with whites. But I dare have nothing in common with people from Nigeria the "Bantus" sharing a color with something is as useless as sharing a similar eye color with another individual. Its not sad, it is reality. We have no genetic similarities with those people. I am not going to come here and say we do based on an ill formed skin color basis.

You can think the way you want, but don't even put me in your little "melting pot of idiotic ideology"

Q, I hear ya, but in well over 3 years here, i'v heard many differing opinions. Many of the older members, most of whom have moved on, would disagree vehemently with you. But a lot of the younger kids seem to relate more to the Afro American. Bottom line is that all Homo Sapiens share 90-something % of the same gene pool, but when it comes to "no seperating US" you cant speak for everyone, as it comes down to the individual, because, as I said, many older Somalis will disagree with you in that there is no distinction. As an experiment, ask your parents and grandparents their opinion on where they stand on it.

My suggestion is to not identify yourself with just one group or race other than your own. Its difficult for young somalis who grow up in the west becuase they automatically identify themselves with black culture becuase they are black.

I tend to think of my self as somali and look at every other group equally from the outside. I had allot of friends from different social circles and races but they never mixed, i mixed in with all of them.

I was in the african students association in college, the Arab one the muslim one. I went to the islamic muxadarat and lectures with mostly arab and indoneseian students. I played rugby with a mostly white australian group and got close to them.
and since i was dating an asian chick and loved japanese/hong gong movies and mnga i spent allot of time with asians, some parties me an dmy buddy were the only non-indoyar.
Laughing

so i advice people to look in from the outside, you wont get confused that way and you will understand and enjoy the company of people of different background.

I respectfully dis concur with you...we may share religion with Nigeria and the rest of some Muslim African countries but we don't share genetic bloodline, culture, or tradition. Just a little research to prove to you go outside and say to any Black person "whats up my nigga"? and see the reaction you get?? If is a Bantu the reaction will be mutual but if not you are in trouble. I don't care what a some white man studies or thinks but we know who we are so we don't need any one doing study or telling us who we are (and no I'm not referring to you Mike) and I'm not trying to be a racist or anything but that is a fact.

Why not just identify yourself as Somaali instead with a group of others?

If the above quote is referring to me ...I can not use "diana" because I'm a male/man ...even if I was a women I would never have use it.

The point here is Somaalis are not negroid race nor are we from the white race so we are Soomaalis nothing more nothing less period.

PS: I'm not defending alluring since she is from a half German (the Aryan race) and half Indian.

Since when did I state, I was "German or Indian". I was using these terms as an example. For instance, I stated that color was just that COLOR and it doesn't define race. Same having to do with hair, people could have hair SIMILAR (KEY WORD) with Germans, but does that make them German or white?? No.... Indians have the same hair texture as Germans but are they white? No...

Got it, or do I have to write this in "slow terms?"

So do not shove words into my mouth. Read what is written or don't read at all.
