There were no "Berbers" in Somalia. I think you are confused by the fact that Arabs used to refer to our ancestors as "Berber", but they got that from the Greeks/Romans who also used to refer to us by the same name. Berber basically means "Barbarian". Greeks and Romans viewed anyone who was not part of their civilisation as barbarians, hence the name.KnowThySelf23 wrote:itrah....let me explain something to you....the somalis you see now...are obviously mixed.. and they came from somewhere other than east africa, as somalia was inhabited by berbers before these somalis came along...chances are we come from a mixture of ethiopians and black arabs....nonetheless please don't associate us with kenyan bantus and f-king west africans....i mean i love them as my fellow africans but we don't share genetics...no fuck that... my hair is too soft dammit...and look at my nose....that aint bantu...or west african!!
Somalis have like 30-40% West Eurasian admixture but it's not from Arabs. It predates Arabs and is from an extinct group of people who lived thousands of years ago. The African component is also from an extinct population which is most closely related to Nilotics.
The elephant in the room is that Somalis are descended from an ancient population that is much older than the Semites (let alone the Arabs). Nobody wants to talk about this fact since we've been brainwashed to believe that we have Arab blood. Most Somalis have negligible Arab blood. Most of our admixture is also on the maternal side. This completely debunks these BS qabiil myths (Sheikh Darood, Sheikh Isxaaq). A Hawiye an Isaaq and Darood are genetically indistinguishable from on another.
Take it a step further: We share a common ancestry with the Oromo, Afar and other "Cushites".. Go back even further and we share a common ancestry with the Habash.. Go back some more and we share a common ancestors with all Afro-Asiatic speakers (Ancient Egyptians, Semites, Berbers, Chadic speakers etc..).. Our history is definitely more than 700-1000 years old like most of these oral traditions will have you believe.
Ps. funny how nobody asked themselves why our language is not Arabic if we descended from Arabs. We should be like the Sudanese or even Swahilis, whose language is at least 50% Arabic.. Instead we have a very distinct language and some distinct traditions... hmmm..
