My peaceful somalia would mean all drugs, with the exception of qat, would be illegal. While there would be heavy taxes on qat. All voting would be democratic without any 4.5 system or clan voting system. Each president would have a maximum of 2 terms - where a term is 4 years. Somalia would try to make negotiations with ethiopia and kenya to let ogaden and nfd seceed - this could be done by requesting the citizens of ogaden and nfd to vote on wether to seceed or not. If ethiopia and kenya allow them to vote, then we could propose with ogaden an nfd to unite with somalia. If this fails then we should put pressure on the UN to allow them to seceed - the last thing somalia needs would be another war. Other things my peaceful somalia would have are:
1. Its borders woud be the same as the one pre-civil war
2. Its capital should be decided by the people
3. It would have a federal government like that of SL and PL where there is only a President and Vice President
4. It would have a strong military of 1million, a strong police force, a navy and coastguards patrolling the seas

This thread is a perfect example of how States are designed to perpetuate the power of their officers and their priorities over the priorities of individual Somali's. Power corrupts, damn it.

My workable (not perfect) Somali Government would be a limited Constitutional Monarchy at the Federal Level with the Capital in Mogadishu, the absence of State level governments and the drain on resources that they are, with localised city based administrations taking responsibility for Emergency Services and Law Enforcement. The Judiciary would be wholly separate from the Executive and Legislative portions of government, self administering and free from overt political influence. I would advocate a Foreign Policy of armed neutrality.

As for the rest of Somalia, that would be up to the choices ordinary Somali's make when they go about their lives and the wealth of information those choices provide when addressing the question of how scarce resources would be equitably distributed in society; otherwise known as the Free Market.

Drug prohibition is counter-productive. If the drug has high enough demand, the price will sky-rocket. A high price will attract unsavoury sorts, and will provide an incentive to smuggle the drug in and sell it for shyteloads of profit, without having to worry about the quality and safety of his 'product'.

In response, governments will spend ridiculous amounts of money trying to catch, and prosecute this drug smugglers, getting legislation passed that gives them more and more power, while infringing on basic rights and liberties without being effective.

This is an incredibly stupid way to deal with the drug problem.

Okay, Salaam sis.

I know Somalis are Somalis, it is just that my poor family didn't really get that, now did they? I know Southerners who live/lived there too, and they usually are looked down upon, treated badly, and are constantly living in a miserable life.

I'm just saying what occurred, I'm sorry for not being diplomatic tonight. But when the issue involves my family, I rarely am. :|

Sis, we don't see them as 'them' they see us as 'them Xamarawis' therefore if I am 'them' to Northerners, then obviously it will make my job of claiming an 'us' difficult.

ooh ok your speaking from a personal/family experience i can understand that. But you have to understand that everywhere you in the world that differs from where you originated there ganna be a struggle esspically if there is a language barrier or in this case a dialect. Like a Somalilander screaming "arye" in the middle of xamar or bosasso people are ganna look at him weird. But its a fact that Somalilanders in general do take discrimination against other somalis to another level.

1. try to populate Madagascar, Nairobi, west of jigjiga and also denakil(we need more land). then after few decades
hold referendums.
2. build relations with Tokyo, north Korea, turkey , Malaysia, Indonesia, china, Germany, Canada and also America( technology, school, products....etc) we need to study everything we can from them.
3. no war with neighboring countries, we cant dwell on the past it will only hold us back.
4. education and health would be our top priority also focus on military.
5. this should be number one. we should take a page from the jews smile and play it cool
while we penetrate every government from the inside.

Warsan-star, there is a grain of truth to every generalization, and your family experience can fall into that category of faulty generalizations.
I guess, for them, to act as different from the rest of Somalis in terms of cultural and political orientation will make political recognition come sooner than later. While this social movement have helped them unite under a misguided leadership and wrong assumptions of us vs them, they tend to lose friends and a sense of brotherhood from the rest of Somalis. The long term consequences is more isolation, resentment from the rest of Somalis, and being ridiculed as traitorous segment.
To succeed, you need coalitions and common vision with the rest of Somalis.

Perfect Somali? The Capital must be moved to Garoowe, Puntland. Xamar is holding us back.
