Personally, I think she is doing it for security reasons. There is nothing like feeling safe for a girl (a bit of a generalisation), and prehaps it was instilled in her she will find this amongst her own (qabil).

Horta a proper Sheikh or a Wadaad, that really practices Islam, is not control freak and would make the best husband, don't mistake them for pseudo-Sheikh/Wadaad wannabe's. I see them in the Somali community and their far from wadaad/sheikh, as a matter of fact their only different from (what you described as the) 'normal guy,' in that they dress differently or have a beard.
