Buys, marriage is an outdated institution that disadvantages & traps men for life & men in the developed world are waking up and smelling the coffee so tread lightly. Just like investing in a stock market, it's risky business and deal with it as such. If you are not ready for taking care of the well-being, emotional and financial needs of a young human(s) for 18 years + the fact that things can go wrong & you have to pay child support with all the nasty and headaches that come with broken marriages then stay away from it. Just warning you.

July 30, 2014 |

Marriage rates have fallen dramatically in most major European countries over the past decade, as austerity, generational crisis and apathy towards the institution deter record numbers of young people from tying the knot.

The number of weddings has fallen to historical lows in France and Spain and has tumbled in other Catholic countries such as Italy, Ireland, Poland and Portugal, according to national and European data. But people have also fallen out of love with marriage in countries as varied as Greece, Denmark, Hungary, the Netherlands and Britain. Only in parts of Scandinavia, the Baltic republics and Germany is the institution retaining its allure.

In Italy there were fewer than 200,000 marriages last year, the lowest number since the first world war. Numbers have fallen by 24% in the past decade and halved since 1965. Preliminary data indicated that the rate of marriages in Italy last year was 3.3 per 1,000 citizens, said Istat (Italy's National Institute of Statistics), compared with 4.6 in 2003. It was, it said, "the lowest in modern history".

@KhalidAli I always knew you preferred sambusa with no filling - you're superficial.

They saw their mothers struggling while their fathers were absent, now why would they desire the same for their future wives? SMH.

I don't think abandoning marriage is the answer Osman. I think we need to address the changing roles brought on by the “modern” lifestyle. Old and new cultures are clashing. For example, many men in Asia and Africa want their wives to be “progressive” and “modern.” Yet they also want them to be homemakers and wives. Unable to cope with fulfilling both roles, many women are abandoning their marriages and seeking divorces. Marriages have now become a mere cold business relationships and this is due to the fact that we have abandoned traditional male and female roles. If we address this confusion everything will be alright.

I am sorry, but if a guy expects his wife to fulfil his main role, then what does that make of him? A sperm bank? Let's be honest no woman can force herself to respect a guy who earns less than her, let alone respect one she can feel can be disposed of in the near future. And nope it ain't bout love after 2 decades...

My 2 cents

LoveAlways,

To each her own huuno, I don't mind being a dutiful wife I will serve with a smile on my face as long as the man I am serving is fulfilling his obligations as a husband. Lakin maxay kugu taala our Somali brothers are in competition with us instead of accepting their role as men waxaa lugu leyahay naaya shaqaayso. The moment a man expects me to work and help him with his job i'm abandoning ship, I don't believe in the 50/50 nonsense. Westernized couples keep tally about who bought the groceries whoever buys the groceries sticks the receipt on the fridge ..ya3ni lets split the bill. Waxaasi noolal ma'aha.
