This question xplaya asked is very important. Why because spreading false info is dangerous. ... I see on forum people are now repeating that somaliland is spending $ 524 million a year amount on khat. Where is the proof and source of this figure? I know qat is a problem but we need to know the true number to know the magnitude of this problem. Can someone please provide proof of this figure?Many people are now repeating this number.

I'm just reporting what it says in that article. Maybe email the guy who wrote it and ask where they get their figures from. I don't know why he'd make it up. Nobody, aside from Somalis, would be interested in this news anyway.

Sometimes people spread true info and sometimes people false information to gain from it. The best way to know is go to the source.

TBH it doesn't matter if the figures are even 1/10th that. $52 million is huge enough, but $524 million is ridiculous.

My cousin used to work at Kalabaydh customs, i did ask him about the khat problem when i was in Hargeisa in 2013.He told me that 300,000 dollar worth of khat goes through Kalabaydh every day.

More accurate number is 100-120 million,still lots of money for a poor country.

By your $100 M - $200 M. By using an average of $150 M, $5,000,000 worth of Khat would have to be imported per day.

Importing $300,000 per day worth of Khat, $9,000,000 per month would be more accurate.

Edit: Unless you mean annually. that would be $108,000,000
