It is actually remarkable when you look at the numbers. For instance the Alto Giuba region of Somalia Italiana corresponds to the regions of Bay, Bakool and Gedo combined in the Somali Republic. Comparing the 1931 census to the 1975 census produces these results:

Alto Giuba's % of total population of Somalia Italiana = 22.38%

(Bay + Bakool + Gedo)'s % of total population of Somali Republic = 22.12%

Darods would love to claim that their numbers magically increased while all other clans decreased, but that is just delusional talk. Changes happen proportionally, there is no doubt that if a census was to be conducted today in Somalia they would still come in 3rd behind Hawiye and Raxanweyn.
