Re: 26 june is no longer consider independent day of somaliland
yes, yes, we can set up a Somali Union (like the EU) in the Horn (through the different somali states) and it will be an alliance aimed to curb aggression from the highland xabashis and the kenyans
and would deepen economic ties

Re: 26 june is no longer consider independent day of somaliland
O.K we will see who knows this history.
In 1946, the British Foreign Secretary Lord Bevin proposed that the British Kingdom should unite all the Somali lands including if they had to buy back the Ogaden which they once gave to Ethiopia. When Italy was defeated as part of the Axis, the British which had taken over Italian Somaliland moved with the idea to finally unite the Somalis.
At this time the British had also seized the Ogaden and Eritrea. The British by this time at the end of the war were not the superpower they once more, the U.S and Russia were dominating and they knew they could not make big demands in colonial affairs when they had just been saved so they tried to play politics with the Ethiopians before the others got involved.
The British tied the merger of Eritrea to Ethiopia with the British taking back the Ogaden to unite with a Somali unified state. However, after Eritrea was federated with Ethiopia, the Ethiopians use the old case of the old colonial agreements with Britain over the Ogaden to gain that land too with the support of the U.S and Russia. Then because Italian Somaliland was raised with Italian influence, it was decided to give Italian and British Somaliland 10 years to prepare for unification and that is how the Trusteeship came into existence with the British tasked with preparing British Somaliland and the Italians tasked with preparing Italian Somaliland. Unification of the two colonies was decided 10 years before 1960.

Check your history.
And post-script is (I don't mean to generalize) but the kids from Somaliland have the least grasp of real history of our affairs and I think the almost universal manner in you which you guys support biased history speaks of a very direct attempt to pollute the market up there with propaganda. When I first came it was almost universally accepted by the Somaliland kids that the flag was made by Somaliland, false. It was almost universally accepted by the Somaliland kids that the script of the language was written by Somalilander, false. But what is suspicious is the universal manner in which they accepted that, clearly there is a lot of historical revisionism going on in that community.

They were always in favor. Why did SNL and SYL rise up? The British could argue for united Somalilands, so they and the Italians thought the Somalis would have a better chance of arguing their international case.Rightwing wrote:Dhego is talking about in 1960 when the british was not in fevour the unification....two different history.

Just Look around at Snet its mostly Daroods who scream somaliweyn 24hrs and Unification
Because they're scattered all over the spectrum. Without the so-called unification, my reer abti will be divided in 5 differnt nationalities.
Voltage,
Like Rightwing told you before your "thorough" research through google.com, that was 1946 after the WWII when the british was ready to leave Somaliland but WASN'T comfortable giving it back to the Itailans whe occuppied Somaliland from 39-45 during the WWII and willing to do again if the British vacates the land.
The political landscape of the region changed short after that and so as the British view of the so-called union.
Regardless what these white colonial figures thought about Somaliland and Somalis in general, OUR intelctuals in Somaliland didn't support the union and that is the fact.

after 18 years of the same old vodoo stories it's time people did some exorcism. 18 years of silanyo and the fools and what have they showed so far? I have heard riyaale went to kuwait recently. It seems the strategy of kissing gordon brown has not worked eh?
As if the arab cares. Probably never heard of the word somaliland. I just fed up of being lied to over and over again. It;s time to go back to what worked last time.

Dhaga, is that what you picked up in your living room or what the world thinks?
Xamari, Somaliland was never an independent state. It was never recognized by anyone. There was never an entry of a nation called Somaliland into the U.N historical record. Nothing. It was a territory in limbo for 4 days and on the 5 day was declared Somalia.
Fact.

where does it say in your carefully selected qoutes above that it was official british policy that the two colonial adminitrations will unite?Voltage wrote:They were always in favor. everyone knows about the bevin proposal, everyone knows about british support for the pan somali SYL...
But you have not presented any evidence that it was official policy to unite the two somalias, the opinions of a few veteren british adminitrators dont count....
The reality is that most somalilanders and especially most isaaq wanted unification, the only difference was the micheal marianos party lost the election,
while Egals party the SNL won and took usinto a headlong dive into unity, and there the nightmare started...
The opposition party did not oppose unification either, but only wanted a slower and smoother transition into unity with the south, probably with a federal structure.........

Fact.
The protectorate gained independence as the State of Somaliland on 26 June 1960. Days later, as a referendum indicated support for unification with the Italian-administered Trust Territory of Somalia (formerly Italian Somaliland). On 1 July 1960, the northern State of Somaliland joined with the southern trust territory to form the Somali Republic
