I agree with Murax, but perhaps my case is different as I grew up with Arabs.
I really have nothing in common with black people especially the ones from Western Africa or the Western Hemisphere (same as a Chinese or European to me).

She is color baiting as is expected of an African-American wanting to keep what she believes is her "Black bretheren" from stepping beyond their position, especially if they are, what most Blacks and herself included believe to be the recalcitrant-Arab-wannabe-Black-Somalis-suffering-an-identity-crisis!The woman is blatantly Afro-centric and rooted in its negative historical discourse. Look at how she tries to reiterate her underlying meaning 4X when once should have sufficed if it was innocent and honest!

Razzberry,
On behalf of the 14 million Somalis, I would like to apologize for the daftness of our resident village idiot, Voltage.
We harbor no ill will towards the African American people and are grateful for the struggles of your people which have allowed us to enjoy freedoms that were made possible by their blood, sweat and tears.

Hi,
Arab/Somali connection is a recurrent subject among Somalis.
I somewhere read the present day Somalia once being part of the Khalifat
(James Dahl the abtirsi guy assert that); it can be a BA thesis;
I think one should first identify wat Muslim Arab culture is.
How this culture is different from "Islamic culture" if that ever exist ?
Is there a drift toward arabic culture wherever Muslim radicalism is in action? Or is this peculiar to Somalis?
Could Somali culture be only defined by Islam?
Arent we equating Arab Culture=Islamic Culture?

Re: We Have more In Common with Arabs Than Africans
It's too complex an issue to generalize on, you will get Somalis who have been fed empty rhetoric and now espouse Afrocentric ideals and Somalis who have stayed true to tradition and still accept that Arabs are culturally identical to us.
It's not a tribal issue, a man who's clan is the only major one which does not proclaim that they are descendants of Arabs was the most pro-Arab leader in Somalia's recent history, one Abdiqasim Salad Hassan (Allah bless his future endeavors) while in direct contrast, the Isaaq who do claim Arab lineage are notorious for embracing African and Afro-Caribbean dhaqan, particularly in the UK.
You can't paint all Somalis with the same brush, but it stands to reason that looking at Somali culture and Somalia's history objectively that the Arab ties are clear as day.
This isn't even touching on the divisive subject of Somalis, or some Somalis actually being Arabs.
Personally speaking, I have visited Arab countries in the Levant, the Gulf and Africa and felt at home in all of them, my one encounter with an African country (Kenya), on the other hand, was the most alienating experience I've ever had the misfortune to undergo.

The Nomad,
I share Your sentiments exactly. It seems people here personalize the issues way too much and do not simply address the topic at hand logically and rationally. Case in point the emotional emails. As I said in the beginning of My topic I am SOMALI from the Marexaan tribe. This is what Allah made Me and I am happy with it. However just because I drew a conclusion that was based on what I've seen with My own eyes living in the Gulf a bit is that Somalis have way more cultural compatibility with Arabs than other Africans. Does that mean I'm saying Somalis are Arabs? NO. It is just a mere observation. In this day and age Where Somalia is a FAILED STATE, there are talks about aligining with either Africans or Arabs socially, and while I am all for Africanism poliitcally, commercial wise etc. There is absolutely no way a Somali nomad in Mudug is going to be compatiable with a African Bushman over a Arab desert bedoin, and thats just the fact.
Voltage,
I met a Omani fellow overseas and When He first saw Me He was like You must be the Omanis from the South which would make You either Dhulbahante or Siwaqaroon. Today the whole South of Oman is full of Somalis who migrated there centuries ago.
