If you are getting to know a person of the opposite gender and the intention is any form of relationship where you are his and he is yours - it's a date.

Halaal date is what people say to make themselves out to be better than everybody else who dates. Unless you have your wali with you sitting there - not halal. Just say bismillah and don't go anywhere dark where he may jump you.

First date should always be a intellectual and personality one!

Both couples should have a intellectual conversation asking each other different intellectual questions. After you guys have the same intellect you can progress into the personality test.

Ideal place for your first date would be somewhere far away from public, somewhere very quite. A friends house? something along that line.
