Early on, the field prepares them to distinguish the two apart and instills in them medical ethics which helps them cope with it i.e. a lot of psych & ethics courses during the first 2 years of med school.

She was also on the anti-FGM documentary someone posted on here a while back. They both had private clinics and also worked out of Banadir hospital for their obstetrics. Doctors back then had little choice about their specialization because they were mostly educated either in Italy or Russia, and had to fill a few slots in whatever department that was accepting students in these countries.
