Dude, it is just assumed this is the case that we came from homo erectus. You have to know before humans, there is no clear evidence showing evolution, only guesses and assumptions, and these major jumps to one species to another. Looking at millennia is one thing, but for the kind of jumps that happen there has to be thousands upon thousands of transitional stages from one species to another. From what we know about DNA, it is totally opposed to changing, in fact everything about it is designed not to change, except for few mutations here and there, but not the kind of change that would be considered evolution. So from Homo Erectus to Humans, the type of transitional stages needed is ridiculously huge, something that would span millions upon millions of years.
