Key bridge destroyed in Somalia

Reports from Somalia say a key bridge on the main road from Kismayo to Mogadishu has been destroyed, cutting the only all-weather route between the country's two most important towns.

The reports said General Morgan's SPM militiamen blew up Kamsuma bridge by remote control, to reinforce their defence of Kismayo against advancing Marehan fighters.

Correspondents say other routes into Kismayo have been cut off by rainwater and mud, and the bridge's destruction could lead to food shortages for vulnerable groups in the region.

Thousands are reported to be fleeing the fighting.

That is what I have always said. Majeerteen never fought in Kismaayo against Mareexaan nor could they have ever. It has always been Morgan with Raxanweyn, Ogaadeen, some Harti brought from Puntland etc.

Majeerteen can never fight in Kismaayo, this is the second largest city in Somalia, how the hell would you stand in front of the SNF??

Last month was the first time Majeerteen, actually Kablalax, by themselves and Mareexaan fought and we know what happened even after thousands of boys brought from Puntland and all the weapons to them by the Axmaaro.

Also, in all these articles where is a sign of anyone helping Mareexaan? Laughing I remember laughing when ppl tried to keep their ego together by saying Cayr or whatever helped Mareexaan when the JVA started in 2001 after Abdiqasim became president for political Mareexaan reasons and Mareexaan had captured Kismaayo in 1998. Laughing

A major development in the south of Somalia was the change of power in the port of
Kismayu. Faction leader Muhammad Said Hirsi, known as General Morgan, a former
defence minister under President Siad Barre and subsequently leader of the Somali
Patriotic Movement (SPM), had controlled the city for the past six years. Kismayu was
captured in November 1998 by the Somali National Front (SNF) after a fierce artillery battle.
The assaults started in January 1998, a month after Muhammad Said Hirsi had announced
his intention to establish a regional administration in the south, in an area he refers to as
Jubbaland. The forces of the SNF continued the fight against the forces of
Muhammad Said Hirsi and in late June they captured the southern town of Badhadheh.
Muhammad Said Hirsi and his forces subsequently fled to the town of Xagar near the Kenyan border.
The authorities in Puntland support the forces of Muhammad Said Hirsi and a local
newspaper in Mogadishu reported that the leaders of the regional administration
in Puntland had traveled to the Lower Jubba region to regroup a strong force to retake Kismayu.
The leaders of Puntland feared that the attack on Kismayu was an indication of what could
happen to their own regional administration. In addition to the troops of Puntland,
Ethiopian forces reportedly arrived to assist in the efforts to recapture Kismayu.
The fall of Kismayu led to violent demonstrations in several towns in Puntland. The
demonstrators demanded immediate action to counter the fall of Kismayu.

^^ As much as you want to brag about that battle and call it a "Kablalax" attack, truth is they left the city because civilians were dieing. This is not Mogadishu, we know who the civilians are, they are my Kin. So instead of fighting and causing havoc, they evacuated the city. The main problem was Afgadud, I heard he was giving people trouble.

And what do you mean "Majeerteen can never fight in Kismayo, it's the 2nd largest city in Somalia", clarify that statement for me! Very Happy

DS,

One more question, I want to hear it from a Mareexan. Do you guys want the right to live in Kismaayo or are you fighting to claim the city belongs to you. Because I've heard some ignorant people say the city is theirs because Hiraale captured it in 1998. So say I captured BeledXawo, would I claim it's an MJ city? No. SO clarify that for me too Ina adeer.

Kismaayo is going to be ruled by whomever is most there and we all know who it is. It is the way of Democracy but if someone tries to disrupt and brings dictatorship, well everyone knows the sound of our guns. Laughing

Either way we are in control....

Well then the population of Kismayo is 250,000 and has been for the most part. So if you say half of the city is Mareexan meaning 125,000 then what happened to the people that lived there before? It doesn't make sense sxb. As far as I know it, people are also claiming back their houses and I know for sure in 8 years Kismayo can't change that dramatically.

Zack abdul even before 1991 Mareexaan has always been the majority of the city. You would have the Harti Costa and the Ogaadeen Lugooyo and come here and say "Cascasay" was the only Mareexaan family there in the second largest city. Hell the governor of Kismaayo in the 80's who is my own reer Siyaad, Hassan Taxiile, lives in my city.

Dude my own wagardhac grandfather, grandma's first cousin, Hussein Wayne was one of the top businessmen in the city, he owned 75% of the boats in Kismaayo harbor. Also reer Mxamed Suggule who control all the beero surrounding Kismaayo, reer Yarrow who built 40% of Kismaayo, etc etc etc.

Couple of little victims from drought laga keenay baad ahaydeen, and you stand up to the men who have always ruled the place.
