The bodies of two Kenyan border guards found in Somalia

Mogadishu 14, June.07 ( Sh.M.Network) - The bodies of two Kenyan policemen believed to be held inside Somalia were found in a settlement dubbed Duhul Dhurwa at the boundary between Somalia and Kenya.

Ahmed Mohammed Barkus, the chairman of Somalia’s Balet Hawa town near the Kenyan border, has told Shabelle by phone Thursday that the bodies of two Kenyans have been found.

“The bodies showed sign of bullets and a large number of Kenyan and Somali troops have now cordoned off the area. We are not yet sure who the killers are but we will find them,” he said.

The pair disappeared last Monday after unknown gunmen ambushed the Kenyan soldiers guarding the boundary between the two countries. An enormous joint search oepration was carried out by Ethiopian, Somalia and Kenyan soldiers on Wednesday, making their way into the war-ravaged country.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.

Two day meetings between the two sides’ local elders heartened local troops to take part in the search operations.

The Kenyan government which only admitted that two of its soldiers were missing inside Somalia has not yet given the names of the slain countrymen.

Kenyan closed its border with Somalia late last year when the Somalia forces backed by Ethiopian military troops and the defeated Union of Islamic Courts fighters combated in southern and central provinces of the country.
