Go back to Africa!
50 years ago today a 15 year old Black girl attempted to enter Central High School in Little Rock but failed because of National Guardsmen called out by Governor Orval Faubus. White students and citizens cussed and spit on the girl and she heard "go back to Africa."
===============
Background:
"On September 2, 1957, the day before the nine black students were to enter Central High, National Guardsmen surrounded the school. In a televised speech that night, Governor Orval Faubus explained that he had called the National Guardmen because he had heard that white supremacists from all over the state were descending on Little Rock. He declared Central off-limits to blacks and Horace Mann, the black high school, off-limits to whites. He also proclaimed that if the black students attempted to enter Central, "blood would run in the streets." [5]
The black students did not attend the first day of school. Early on Wednesday, September 4, Daisy Bates of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), who was helping out the nine, called to tell them that they were to meet a few blocks away from the school and walk in together. Unfortunately, Elizabeth Eckford, one of the nine, did not have a phone. She never received the message and attempted to enter the school alone through the front entrance. An angry mob met her, threatening to lynch her, as the Arkansas National Guard looked on. Fortunately, two whites stepped forward to aid her, and she escaped without injury. The other eight were also denied admittance by the National Guard, under orders from Governor Faubus."

Anyone see the BET show "We got to do Better" that's the very first modest show I've ever seen on BET.

Most of what you see on BET is garbage and DOES NOT represent most of black America. I was pleased when they pulled that awful Uncut From their airplay.
TV 1 Is much better.

Ina Baxar,
I actually don't watch BET, I saw one show yesterday and that was it.
I used to enjoy watching BET Uncut at 2:00am back when I was a horny ten year old.

Re: Go back to Africa!
i do not watch BET, i do not watch MTV, i sometimes watch VH1's i love the 90's and stuff. but hip hop in general annoys me, a few artists like kanye and common and nas i still listen to, but other than that, i'm too grown to be to listening to this nonsense materialistic borderline retarded crap they show on BET.
Re: Go back to Africa!
Was surprised to learn that 80% of all rap and Hip Hop music is purchased by white youth . Was even more surprised that a rather large % of BET viewers are white.
Who Knew?
Something I heard on CNN a few moths back when they were doing a special on Hip Hop Music.

It's common sense. White kids can actually afford the CDs..

Re: Go back to Africa!
Well both of you intially mentioned BET{ not me } but anyway in order to get the overall picture of the black community in America{ since y'all so quick to judge others} I suggest you also check out C-span .
They ain't all rappers you know , they've also got writers , journalists, circuit judges , high ranking govt officials, businessmen , human rights activists......
Very intellectual people , far more honest than anybody else with a black skin I've seen so far

Re: Go back to Africa!
That was a silly comment posh.
The majority of R&B is purchased by blacks and a large % of Rock, Pop, and Indie music is purchased by blacks too.
Its a stereotype that blacks only listen to so called "black music"

Re: Go back to Africa!
I think the brain/mind/intellect of the somalis was actually configured in such a way to only criticize and depict the nasty in the "other"
There 's no way A PEOPLE can acheive greatness so long as they're in such a state.
We indeed come from a FAILED STATE of mind that is

Re: Go back to Africa!
I think you'll are missing my point. I posted this as a reminder that still this is the world as it is today. Turn on talk radio and you'll hear people screaming that "those people" should just "go back to Africa." Pick up a paper and look at the quotes about "Mexican people taking over our country." Click on the comments section on your local TV news website and you read comments like "Islam is the enemy and we should bomb them all". So yes, the same sort of things are happening there today; hate, racism, xenophobia are still with us today. Heck, we even see it here at SomNet every so often.
Re: Go back to Africa!
I get your point jr. but unfortunately that is the way of the world.

As you can see it’s still happening in the south today.
