Michael Moore feels Canadians like to believe he's not alone in the U.S.

TORONTO (CP) - Michael Moore feels Canadians "get" his films in a way Americans just don't.
"Canadians, you're wired in a different way than we are humour-wise," said Moore from the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival. "You understand and appreciate irony and satire in a way that Americans, we take things maybe a little bit too literally and don't always get it."
Moore's latest film, "Captain Mike Across America," follows the renegade filmmaker's cross-country journey ahead of the 2004 U.S. presidential election. His Slacker Uprising Tour was an attempt to get more young people to vote, and perhaps keep George W. Bush out of office for a second term. While the tour managed to inspire increased numbers of young registered voters, the rest is history.
But Moore feels his film shows the political tide is turning south of the border.
"There's a lot of Canadians that like to believe that there's more than just me in the United States, and there is. And this film certainly shows that there are millions who feel the way that I feel," Moore said.
"I don't think Canadians want to despair and worry that much of what exists in America right now is not good. There is a lot of good going on, and I hope people see that."
With another presidential election looming on the horizon, Moore is optimistic about the future in his country. "I have not given up hope yet," he said of the next administration.
"I'm about this far," he said, making about a centimetre's space between his thumb and forefinger. "But I'm still hanging in there."
