Baadiye Vs America
I was born in Baadiye and stayed there untill I came this crazy place called America 6 years ago. I wish they haven't brought me here. Anyone feels the same?

Hidigow,
Are you talking Badiye vs Amerika, or Badiye vs Beled?
Unless you are just talking about the isolation of your family group, Badiye Mareykan wa weyn yahay. Get some friends together and go enjoy it. Parts of Utah, Nevada, etc. are very much like Badiye Somalia.

xidigow @LOL
I am sorry for your plight, i can't really empathize for i was born and bred in Cadaan magaal weyne.I like it. I do think of a snug charming country life now and then- to visit during the summers but those thoughts never go beyond the green landscape scenery. As soon as i think of the lack of starbuck and city clean pavements in place of muddy bumpy filthy grounds i give up!
No, i am a city girl till i die.

Re: Baadiye Vs America
Hidigow,
Can you pin-point a little better what it is about the Somali baadiye that you miss?
Were animals any part of it?
The independence and ability to fend for yourself?
Are the people who were with you in baadiye still with you here in the States?
You know, homesickness is a real thing.......

Re: Baadiye Vs America
Hidigow,
I can relate to what you are saying. I worked for my grandfather on his cattle ranch during the summers as a teenager. At that time we still worked with horses, movies were far away and generally not available, and TV at that time didn't amount to much. By and large, we had to entertain ourselves, and the horses, at least, were part of the family.
The closest you are going to find to this in America today is probably going to be a dairy or horse farm. If you are in Ohio or Minnesota it shouldn't be too difficult to find one that will show you the ropes, and maybe even give you a part-time job.
Good luck!

Helwaa,
Reer baadiye rarely hear the athaan, although I do understand what it is you are talking about.
Wager,
You are in somewhat of a minority on this board in recognizing this Cadaan as Somali. Is there even such a thing as Somali cadaan? Somali Cad Cad, yes. Somali cadaan, ?. Note my avatar. That's me.

Wager, Grant is a former missionary (I think) working in Somalia. I've met MANY Whites in my time that speak Somali.

Re: Baadiye Vs America
Metal,
Get out of here with that missionary chit.
I was a US Peace Corps Volunteer, a guest of the Somali Government, teaching English at the Government School in Jilib.
I don't ever so much as recall discussing religion while I was in Somalia. We didn't discuss qabiil either. They were taboo subjects.
