Is there a reason that nobody here can do some disposionate, intellectual analysis on the strengths and weaknesses of each of the conflict parties to do some real predictive analysis, instead of just cheerleading?

I don't hear any from you either MAC, so that's rather hypocritical to say.

As to Ethiopia, they can't afford this war. The US just dumped 39 million in emergency financial aid to Ethiopia, but there is international pressure over human rights abuses so the US can't just throw money at them forever.

Ethiopia is "surging" right now to try and end the conflict with the burst of cash the US just provided them, but if Ethiopia does not defeat the insurgency (which has only grown stronger since the conflict began) they will simply run out of money and withdraw, with the insurgency probably following them into the Ogaden.

Which is, by the way, the "nightmare scenario" that Ethiopia is in Somalia to prevent. Ironically they will actually cause it to happen, when it may not have even occurred if they hadn't invaded.

Ethiopia has had to clamp down really hard on domestic opponents too, and I would not be surprised of this war leads to the collapse of the Ethiopian government.

Frankly I am surprised the Ethiopians have stayed as long s they have. They don't have endless amounts of cash, as you pointed out. But the insurgency can not follow them into the Ogaden. There the Ethiopians have an established upper hand, and the insurgents would be much more vulnerable. Furthermore, since the insurgents are not monolithic, if the TFG collapses when the Ethiopians leave, southern Somalia will again have a great many factions who will be at eash others throats. The US and Ethiopia will support those who are enemies of the Salafists, and that should keep the fighting going for several decades.
