A once thriving Port town under Boqor Kenadiid is now a 40 shacks and a mule.

You guys are such haters
It looks like they're doing good things, they have next to no money, but they're making a big effort to improve matters.

Unclebin, but if Galmudug really wants they can make a state with Hobyo as a port, and Baraxley as a capital and nothing else.

Re: Galmudug's Hobyo Region

I have actually, Hobyo's been steadily in decline since 1920. The two things that killed Hobyo were:
1: Building all the modern port facilities in Mogadishu, and nothing in Hobyo
2: Building a main highway through Galkacyo, but no coastal highway, and only a crappy dirt road that only goes to Galkacyo
In 1920 Hobyo was one of the biggest towns in Somalia.

And in 1920 Majerteen Ruled Hobyo... Actually the Cismaan Maxamud did....
Without the royalty in town the hamlet is crap.

Kenadiid took over the town in the 1870s, and Majerteen had only been in control of the town for less than 50 years. Most of Hobyo was built by the Ajuran and Hiraab.

Kenadiid took over the town in the 1870's and had the town in his control for 50 years. That includes 1920 my friend. The italians didn't control Mudug till Cumar Samatar was pushed into Somali Galbeed in 1925
After that Hobyo is shit.
Look at Galkacyo..... We've taken control of this dusty town and turned it into gold... Habar Gidr only know how to Destroy.

Re: Galmudug's Hobyo Region
Kenadiid took over in 1878 and his son was deposed in 1920, that's 42 years, which is less than 50.
Doesn't really matter though, economics is the reason for city growth. The highway meant Galkacyo was going to grow no matter who owned it, while the lack of modern port facilities in Hobyo meant it would shrink no matter who owned it.
Same thing has happened in Puntland too. Bosaso grew with the highway and modern port, while Qaw declined into oblivion.

Re: Galmudug's Hobyo Region
Yes and The Town was built in that time by the chinese?
The town was built by Kenadiid.....
When kenadiid found it was only a few shacks do you want me to bring Jstor articles and karbaash you?
Then Cumar Samatar fought back control of it another Majerteen and then the italians+ eritrean askaris + hawiye pushed him back....
After that hobyo is a town of no more then 700 people.

Re: Galmudug's Hobyo Region
Go ahead, find some article that states that the town declined because of the Habir Gidir, rather than economic forces.
