Should prison emphasize rehabilitation rather than punishment?

Maintaining a prison is costly so governments should use them more as rehabilitation tools than punishment ones. Confused

Incarceration is big business, more and more prisons are privately owned and operated.

You should not rehab. You should punish to the max ( like cutting hands) and release them. All suckers will know that if they brake the law..... no jail, but ho hand or leg.

incarceration for years is cruel and unusual punishment............you basically turn people into animals in prison and if they were jailed for non-violent crimes, putting them in with violent offenders for years and expecting them to be 'rehabilitated' is just stupid.

What crimes do the people have to do to be in Rehab?

So, if the individuals kills someone, they should be put in REHAB? I say throw away the key and do not DROP the SOAP!

But people say that people have certain disorders that they need help with.

For example, SOME paedophiles have a mental illness in which their sex testerone levels are uncontrollable, so they cant help it.

Surely putting someone like dat in jail isnt going to achieve anything?
