here is another one wich baffles me all the time: SHOULD SOMALI SCHOOLS TEACH SEX EDUCATION. sex education is always on the news (UK anyway) and i was wondering what somalis would think if sex education was part of their Curriculum. i mean to teach sex education to kids as young as 4/5/6 yrs old the UK started to introduced this and there was a WOW media attention as some parents didnt agree with this. what do you think?

Yes.

Kids need to learn about it in school rather than on their own. Ignorance = disease & death. It should be taught to kids at age 13.

r u kidding me?? To teach sex, one has to first, acknowledge sex exists. According to somali ettiquette manual-- sex DOES NOT exist. We just marry-- and 'Calaaf' happens in the bedroom, and before we know it-- we have like 10 children running around.

Nope. I didn't take ONE course in sex education, and I am still against it. If they should learn from someone it should be their parents, not some random adult in a class full of children their age who chuckle at "period"

Theres a right way and a wrong way to teach sex education
Dont give the kids condoms and say...if your gonna do it, make it safe.....
They should defintly be taught the consequences both socially and religiously as well.....
Atleast someone is having the birds and pease talk with them...caues sure hellz know my parents never did and neither would most somali parents.

Hmmm, they do that. Sex education courses are not acceptable in our culture. They tell the children to not have sex, but yet show them how to use condoms!

yeah you right. sex education shouldnt be made simple, like you said..Dont give the kids condoms and say...if your gonna do it, make it safe..but they do that here in the UK. they bring condoms to the class room and say to kids do it safe! if you going to do it WHAT they mad walahi. they know these are just kids, and when you say condoms are safe, they actually going to believe it, and they havent a clue the consequences of sex. but do think we should teach kids sex education at all? even if they are 14/15?

You don't have to start out with a Masters and Johnson type approach to sex education; it seems to me that some topics are appropriate at earlier ages than others.

I would like to see a frank discussion of FGM, at least among the girls, in an academic setting, prior to the time they would normally be circumsized. It seems to me that the health risks in this area require the informed consent even of minor children. A progression of topics could lead from there as age and circumstances warranted.

Given the nature of the world, ignorance is certainly no solution.

no they should not be tought of sex. these children are pure and innocent let them be children and let them be pure when they grow up they will know about sex.
