I have noticed that in the early years of the Iraq occupation. On CNN and other networks, some US troops with hardcore tattoos and the physical appearance of gangs, criminals, etc were shown.

To be honest with you, this is completely new to me. I wasn't aware of the US recruiting criminals into their army, i didn't think they'd resort to that. I'm quite surprised actually.

Why would they recruit them, when i'm sure there are plenty of people who would join the US army and who aren't criminals. Is there a shortage of people joining the army or something?
