UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Britain has circulated a draft resolution on Somalia to members of the Security Council that would open the door to a stronger U.N. presence and a possible deployment of U.N. peacekeepers.

Somalia's transitional government has been urging the council to send U.N. peacekeepers to help stabilize the lawless Horn of Africa country.

While the 15 Security Council members agree the situation is dire, most have been reluctant to send U.N. peacekeepers to Somalia, where warlords, Islamist insurgents and Ethiopian-backed Somali government forces are battling.

The draft text, obtained by Reuters on Wednesday, asks the Security Council to "welcome" a recent report by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on preparations for a U.N. force to replace African Union peacekeepers, known as AMISOM.

I wish all these people could leave Somali because they are just going to face resistance, which is inevitable.. thus leading to civilian deaths. These rebels don't have tanks and F-15s sxb, they are forced to fight in the shadows.

Zack,

The UN troops would replace the Ethiopian troops, and that would create less animosity toward the TFG.

Although I understand Somalis are bitter because of Ethiopians are in our country, I doubt anything will change. Even the AU peace keepers are being targeted. And if the UN peace keepers were to arrive, it would only attract foreign fighters.

jr,

I understand this will discourage any future Somalis who would want to join Al Shabab. But even so, these guys will be here, weak, but still in Mogadishu

Zack,

Sxb this is battle over PR. Most Somalis feel the TFG is responsible the presence of the Ethiopian troops and give some kind of moral support to the insurgence. We need to win the PR battle in order to win back the support of the diaspora.

jr,

Everyones making these people out seem like they're heroes. As soon as Ethiopians entered Mogadishu and shid hit the fan, we forgot Indacadde and who he was, but from that day on he was a Mujahid.

But I think Abdullahi knows he's not going to get support from the Somalis with Xabasha in the country. But what can he do now? I doubt they'll leave anytime soon.

Sxb one thing is for sure though, as soon as we befriend Ethiopia, it's safe to say we have completely abandoned Galbeed.

Zack,

As you pointed out Somalis have short memory hence once the Ethiopian troops are replaced by UN troops there would be of short period of insurgence but in overtime they will quietly disappear, although that will also depend on winning the hearts and minds of many Somalis inside Somalia with increased aid distribution and building peace and civil society as well as reconstruction and long-term peace building process.

I hope so, but what is Abdullahi going to do with the warlords he bought? I doubt Somalis will move on with Max'd Dheere, Qeybdiid etc holding govt positions don't you think? This government has to be legit bro, we can't have ex-warlords running the government.

This is one issue that will most definitely be brought up. And I can assure you, as soon as Abdullahi starts to sack these warlords, they will defect to any opposition group even if it means joining the UIC. We Somalis love revenge sxb, just look at what Xaabsade did as soon as Cadde told him to hit the road.

Zack,

That is why I think the 4.5 clan formula has been doomed to failure from the start. There has to be an open elections in every region in Somalia with equal representations which make up parliamentarian system who would elect both the president and the prime minister. I think that is the only way to avoid possible future conflict, confrontations and disagreements between government members.
