Insurgent group: Top Somali Islamist killed in airstrike
MOGADISHU, Somalia - An Islamic insurgent group says the man believed to be the head of al-Qaida in Somalia has been killed in an airstrike along with eight other people.
The spokesman for the Islamic Al-Shabab militia says an overnight strike killed Aden Hashi Ayro at his house in the central Somali town of Dusamareeb. Sheik Muqtar Robow says eight others were killed and six wounded on Thursday.
Somali government officials have said Ayro trained in Afghanistan before the Sept. 11 attacks and heads up al-Qaida's cell in Somalia.
The U.S. military has attacked several suspected extremists in Somalia over the past year.

Top Somali Islamist ,Aden Hashi Eyrow, killed in airstrike
MOGADISHU, May 1 (Reuters) - Two senior leaders of Somalia's Islamist movement were killed when four planes dropped bombs over the house they were staying in early Thursday morning, an Islamist commander said.
"It is true that infidel planes bombed Dusamareb. Two of our important people, including Aden Hashi Eyrow, were killed in the incident," Mukhtar Robow Adumansur, a senior commander of the Islamists, told Reuters.
The leaders belonged to al Shabaab, the military wing of a sharia courts movement ousted at the end of 2006, that is on a U.S. list of terrorist organisations.
"An American plane bombed the house of al Shaabab leader Aden Hashi Eyrow," one resident told Reuters.
"I could see pieces of human bodies lying outside the house. It was difficult to go in because of heavily armed Islamists guarding the area."
Another resident said the town was woken up by two loud explosion at about 2 a.m.
"When we came out, we saw a home in the neighbourhood entirely destroyed by two missiles fired by planes flying over us. We counted four planes," said Amina Warsame, a resident of the town that is in central Somalia.
Branded terrorists by Washington, al Shabaab has led an Iraq-style insurgency against the government and its Ethiopian allies since early 2007.
The insurgency began when the Islamic Courts Union, of which Al Shabaab was a part, lost control of Mogadishu. (For full Reuters Africa coverage and to have your say on the top issues, visit: http://africa.reuters.com/)

Re: Al shabaab's dark day
It was 2, not 4, but Aden Hashi Ayrow was one of them.
Or at least that's what BBC is reporting.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7376760.stm
Air strike on Dusamareb.
The article is full of inaccuracies though. Ayrow hasn't been the head of Shabbab for over a year, and Hassan Turki is the head of al-Qaeda in Somalia, not Ayrow.
In fact the sad irony of this is that Ayrow had sided with the more moderate ARS, and had actually left al-Shabbab, which Mukhtar Robow became the leader of.

Garoweonline is saying its the Americans who carried out
DHUSAMAREB, Somalia May 1 (Garowe Online) - The leader of Somalia's al Shabaab insurgent group was the target of a U.S. airstrike early Thursday morning in the central Somali town of Dhusamareb, reliable sources said.
Adan Hashi Ayro, a fighter said to be in his 30s and spearheading the Somali insurgency, was confirmed to be inside a house in Dhusamareb, which was hit by at least three missiles.
Residents reported witnessing four military aircraft hovering above the town, followed subsequently by the sound of explosions at around 3am local time.
It could not be independently confirmed that Ayro was killed in the attack, but the BBC Somali Service cited witnesses saying they saw four dead bodies and that the recovery effort is still underway.
Muktar Robow "Abu Mansur," the al Shabaab spokesman, told Reuters that Ayro was killed inside a Dhusomareb home when "infidel planes" bombed the town.
There is no available picture of Ayro, who was allegedly trained in Afghanistan before the U.S. military invasion of 2001 that overthrew the country's Taliban rulers.
The U.S. military has targeted al Shabaab insurgents, and Ayro in particular, at least two times in southern Somalia last year but missed.
In March, the U.S. State Department officially designated al Shabaab a foreign terrorist group, a move the al Shabaab spokesman said he welcomed.

Re: Al shabaab's dark day
The USA added them to the Terror list to pave the way in killing Al-shabab members. That would put Mansour, Turkey on red alert, because there are a lot of Somali snitches that will probably take money and guide the American planes to them.

Re: Al shabaab's dark day
Knowing Al-shabab, that will probably motivate them more, because these people believe that they will go to Jannah if they die. I heard Eyrow was the most aggressive and violent member of Al-shabab and he's responsible in killing a lot of TFG officials, including Jilicoow and the likesShirib wrote:Man, now I'm half way depressed
