$1000 by 2010? The author is clearly exaggerating. More likely, it could reach $200, with gas costing +$6 a gallon.

Either way, Somalia is sitting on a hell of a lot of cash.

Somalia better sign up with Chinese, Malaysian or non-Western oil companies, just as Sudan. Nothing good can come from signing up with Western oil companies.

Arabs have oil companies now too, like Kuwait, UAE and Yemen.

Somalia can be exploited by Oil companies under the current state of chaos and lack of strong national government. The regional crooks in leadership positions will be happy to pocket few millions and sign up contracts without burgain and future concern. They want to make a quick buck leaving behind the environmental mess and the steep loss of national wealth for somalis to deal with in the future. It is best to wait for a strong national government which has the backing of Somalis in order for us to gain maximum benefit from Oil and Mineral Exploration of the land.

But those countries aren't independent from Western influence/meddling and do not manufacture their own weapons and arms.
