The Constitution of 1960

"Article 74
Disability, Resignation, Death
1. In case of death, resignation, or permanent disability of the
President of the Republic, the National Assembly shall meet within thirty
days to elect a new President of the Republic."
As the Constitution says when President Sharmarke was assassinated the National Assembly met to elect a new President, unfortunately before a clear winner was declared the military took power in 1969 by force.
