Another Somali Man Shot died in Minneapolis

Post by Kramer »

Minneapolis Police are investigating the death of a Somali man, who they said was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Somali Village Market Mall Monday night.

Officers received the report of a shooting in the 900 block of East 24th Street just after 9:00 p.m. Dozens of witnesses were at the scene and heard the gunshots, according to officials.

Authorities do not have any suspects in custody.

The shooting marks the second Somali man to be shot and killed in Minneapolis in a week, however police would not comment whether the two cases are related. This is the 29th homicide this year.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis Police have made an arrest in the shooting death of an Augsburg College student outside a community center in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood.

Police say a juvenile male is being held while the case is reviewed by the Hennepin County attorney's office.

Twenty-year-old Ahmed Nur Ali, a Somali-American and third-year political science major, was gunned down last Monday outside the Brian Coyle Community Center, where he had just started as a volunteer tutor to young children.

Investigators are crediting information from witnesses who came forward and were in the crowd when the shooting happened. They're also crediting "a new cooperative effort between the Somali community and police."
