He did not only destroy McCain by winning big but he also made the Democratic party so popular.

The Republicans are wondering how their party has come to be a party that only appeals to white rural men and few islam phobic Majirten. No blacks, no latinos, no youth, no women, no homos or lesbians...

The Republicans are saying it can't be Bush's blunders alone that has caused this debacle. They believe part of the reason why this is happening is because of Obama's capacity to appeal to these different groups.
