If there's one thing I've learned about Somalia in four years of reporting (aside from the fact that anyone who tells you they know what they are talking about is a fool) is that nothing will work unless it comes from Somalia itself. The British diplomats haven't learned that lesson, trying to dabble in Somalia's political process to promote their man (he has a Brit passport too) at the expense of Islamists.

His problem was that extremists within his movement went too far. Some of the Sharia courts within the union banned music in their areas of the city, cinemas were shut down and - the biggest mistake of all - stopped the trade in qat, the mild stimulant so beloved of Somali men. With popularity at home ebbing and little support from the international community Sheikh Sharif was unable to sideline the hardliners like Sheikh Aweys and the project was ultimately doomed.

I think the reporter is a big sympathizer witht he Sharif and seems to ignore his attributes to the mess..but it could be more than that..
Meaning that the west decided cautiously to say he is the lesser of the 2/3 evils in Somalia..so lets use him for our own advantage.

Remember you used to say that somalia's agenda and their leaders along with the ethiopian invasion was being planned by Washignton??

I got 9 lives homie, no little scruffle is going to leave any scratch marks on me.

There's no question that only what Washington wants will work in the horn and in much of the world today. I'm closely monitoring what news outlets like Reuters, AP and LA Times are saying this time around considering their smearing campaigns against the ICU and Sh. Shariif during 2006. News agencies have always been a tool by the U.S. government to drum up support for their policies or create a false public perception of those they do not favor.

The Huffington Post is not alone in their rosy description of Sh. Shariif, many other sources are doing it including the LA Times:

Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed, a former high school teacher, was elected during a special session of the recently reformulated parliament, which met in the neighboring nation of Djibouti because of the ongoing violence in Somalia.

I know they are painting a rosy picture of the sharif..thats why I started to question his integrity . We shall see .
