Djibouti student documentary film

Post by 1 double 00 % »

This is a short film done during my work placement from leeds met uni. This film is meant to inform and attract young people from the west to djibouti for voluntary programs. I plan to set up an NGO which facilitates uni students from the UK to go to Djibouti for their work placement by end of 2010.

watch it and let me know wot you think, if you have any advice, ideas, recomendations... send me a pm.

peace

Nice indeed I enjoyed watching the videos. Horta I love Djibouti it's a mini Somalia lakin ninyaho the reality on the ground is Djibouti is a sad stroy. Forget about not being able to provide jobs for it's half million citizens but it also an able to feed a third of its own population who rely on UN food progame for their survival.

Everyone was good before i left, i was only there for 6month, the following few months i did this documentary and travelled a bit (somaliland, ethiopia and yemen) wanted to go eritrea but there was war going on at that time. Im back in the uk now, finishing off uni and working on this project.

Reality on the ground is that when it comes to jobs, the curiculum taught in the university is letting the country down, basically they put a lot of resources on courses that dont directly benefit the country's development e.g law, accoutancy, language studies instead of engineering courses, business or medecine which would be vital to a developing country.

That guy is me... anyways this really interesting cos before i went to djibouti, i had some views that totally changed after I came back and somaliland is one of them. I believed somalia should be one country and there was no reason for galbed people to secede but after visiting somaliland i was totally suprised by how much effort the people there are making and how proud they are to be somalilander. So i reckoned why stand against their hope's and wishes because them doing well could only mean the rest of us somalis would benefit.

am i crazy staying in a hotel in djibouti... it cost around $20 a night and thats cheap. I stayed with family in Q3. basically the reason why i mentioned hotels is because im presenting this film to students from the uk so this gives them a run down on what they can expect, where they can stay etc
Djibouti stance on somalia is one somalia
It was before... but things are starting to change and i think its about time cos competition is good for business
