Btw, I think it is still alright to invest in emerging markets. I'm not sure whether BSE qualifies as an emerging market just yet. I'd say take your little bit and invest in camels.

I am severely pissed off. I am going to start investing in rehabilitation of some family properties in North Mogadishu and leasing them out.

The cartoon was in good taste. Why is he/other Westerners so sensitive ? After all if they can DEFEND a cartoonist who makes cartoons insulting the Prophet (PBUH)

Horta, last I heard property and land prices in Xamar and the surrounding areas was falling drastically ever since the Ethiopian invasion....has it recovered or are you betting on a recovery following the recent political process.

I agree about the cartoon....political cartoons are always meant to take the mick, African Americans need to stop being so darmn sensitive....do you remember those cartoon caricatures of Afwyne? They were the meanest.

It never really fell, I was interested in buying land in Lafoole, they said 15K for a single lot. Land speculators drive the price way up there is no way it should cost 15K

This is actually the best time to invest if you're smart, we are seeing companies fail all over the world and most of them will even fail more further this year. Buying short stocks (you profit from declining values) is the easiest thing out there (although you will get royally screwed if some government buys the company out and shares sore again).

PS Emerging markets: Totally disastrous, even more than the developed markets last year. Get away from it.

Tanzania, Kenya etc from 2002 to 2008: Every year nearly 100%

Shirib, I don't think it was just speculators...I think there was a genuine increase in demand, I know a lot of people were buying land and building new homes down there. I know some of the land and houses were over priced laakin once there's return of peace, I suspect there will be a serious boom in the property market over there.

Abdi, good for you waraa. I'm going to try to buy my grandma's farm insha'Allah.....I love that land.

It was from 7 to around 26 meaning around 270% increase, in one year that's massive.
