I recently stumbled upon an article regarding Abwaan Hadraawi's visit to Sheekh and was very impressed with the climate, landscape & architecture of the city. Who settles there & what's the population like? Its said to have a cooler weather with its elevated altitude, anybody been there? Would definitely love to visit one day, insha Allah.

Sheekh Secondary School used to be one of the best if not the best Secondary school in Somalia. A lot of somali politicians attended that school.

sheekh is a shared city , the habar awal have their own sections and the habar yoonis their own. Unlike Keyse the af cas i have to be realistic.

How big is the population & what is the main source of revenue for the city? Grazing lands?

population is small around 60k it always hase been a student town since the colonial times and its more rainy then either the coast or the plains and its very cold. Its economy is life stocks and farms , sheekh is more a of a catlle region and the area close by is the National Park of "Gacan Libaax" a resort.

What are the main cities around it? Is it a trade city? What industries already exist and which ones are lacking?

Berbera , Burco , Hargaysa all are equi-distance from sheekh , no factories , just a nomadic mountainous region with more water pasture then the low lands.

The british missonaries did a swell job for Waaqoyi but mission incomplete as they remain "muslim".

I have been to Sheekh as a teen in the late 80s, I remember it very vividly.. it was beautiful but cold.

And at the time it did not look that big to have even 5 thousand residents, though I only stayed for 1 day I must admit.

Its named Sheekh because the tomb of Aw Qudub the Sheekhaal ancestor is located there and is the oldest structure in the town.
