Borana and Garre massacre each other in Moyale
Around 300 people are reportedly killed in a clash between Oromo and Somali clans in Moyale town. Thousands of people have also fled their homes due to the fighting in the Kenya-Ethiopia border.
Violent clashes often occur between the Borana Oromo and Garre Somali, mostly over territorial disagreements and over scarce resources for the two pastoralist communities. The recent drought in southern Ethiopia has escalated the conflict over water wells.

Foxy is Digil, Garre are Digil, how did Foxy's people get massacred by Garre when essentially it would be Garre who are her people since they are both Digil?

Garre are just Garre, they aren't Digil, Hawiye or Dir.
According to their oral history, Garre was an Arab immigrant, but this is the story with every eponymous ancestor.
They don't trace their abtiris to any other clan.
It sounds like fierce fighting, 300 people is a lot in that part of the world.

the fact remains that smaller clan change their allegaince when the opportunity it right
150 years ago the Garre in southern ethiopia/Northeast Kenya (not the once living in Bay or Webi Shabella) were part of a federation under the Oromo much like the Sakuya, Ajuraan which is the reason that they continue to speak their own langauge it wasn't until late 1900s that they finally broke free from oromo hegemy when Daroods and than Dagodi starting moving in mass into the area. these clans eventual successed in drive the Boraan west toward the highland and Masibat district of Kenya. the well of Wajir use to be Boraan until they were evicted. in the 1920-35 event happen which resulted in the current friction between the Garre and the Boraan. first the Gabre ( a group closely related to the Boraan often treated like the small brother of the boraan )converted to Islam and formed an alliance with the Garre. later during the Italian Occupation the Gabra and Garre were armed by the italians to police their most southern territory. small disputes eventually escalated to full blown war betweent he Gabra/Garre clans and the Boraan. in one incident the Garre/Gabra captured a boraan king, shave his head and force him to convert to islam. the war only ended when ethiopian rule was restored. where were intermitant skirmishes until the next defining event the Somali/Ethiopian war of 1977 the Garre/Gabra were armied by the Somali national army while the Boraan were armied by the Ethiopian army. when Somalia lost so did the Garre/Gabra and there was a mass exodus toward Kenya and Somalia. many live in refugee camps until the late 1980s when most returned back to Ethiopia. by the 1990 the Garre/Gabra alliance fell apart and they form stronger ties with the Dagodi which they also often fight with that where the whole Hawiye connect comes from. recently the Ethiopian Army has been arming the Garre to fight against the OLF. so do now you see how the Garre can be a part of all these groups yet also be none of them at the same time. it confusing i know but so is much of Somali history.
