'Xataa Lu'gey Alla'
Lu’gey was the kind of guy who kept to himself. Everybody knew him around; he would always say the salaam to the strangest of people but was also very tentative to his friends, family, and neighbors. It always took a bit to utter his words, and his motions were restricted due to debilitating effects of the civil war back home. His right hand was paralyzed and dragged one of his feet as a result. I knew not long ago when in the vicinity of his home, some hood rat run away with his grocery bag while I was pulling in to a parking. I could see the swift snatching of the bag by a little kid that passed me with something that had few items and half empty. Lu’gey couldn’t move an inch to get his stuff or scream loud enough for others to help. I didn’t know what side to take on the hungry stealing from the vulnerable and bit biased towards completing a track I was listening to. I was ecstatic when I got a neighborly invitation for Lu’gey’s wedding last month. It was specially a wonderful idea for Lu’gey to totally be in position of power and be in charge for the first time since his wounds from the civil war. It didn’t take much before I found out that everyone didn’t share the joy of the moment. Our chubby fatty habar next door passed us the day of the preparation with a smirk and giggle, we could overhear her dismissive low tone saying ‘alla ba’ayeey war xataa Lu’gey alla mid buu u soo diray.’
