Somalia had a forced national service which you had to go. Either you did military service or teaching across the country or even building buildings, roads, etc.

You did not get paid and it did not matter if you were old or young especially if you were working for the government

the qafaal business back home was funny!. i heard alot of funny stories. all u had to do is to scream "qafaal" in a crowded theater in xamar, and it would be empty in 5 seconds!.

It was mandatory. You could not get out of it unless you knew someone in government. After you finish high school you would be sent off to the bush to teach people or to train with the military.

The purpose was to help advance the nation but it was horrible if you were called up. Being forced to work for free makes no sense.

I remember fearing those trucks that would collect "volunteers" to be sent for training, shoddy training and placed on a Truck to go fight in Wuuqoyi.
