Ever heard of a Somali with cancer ?

So there is this white lady who lives nearby and has breast cancer. She’s getting treated and has access to very good private doctors/hospitals.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women today and is the most common cancer among women.

About 1.3 million women will be diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide about 465,000 will die from the disease.


Its sad.. I know

My question is….. how come we never hear a single case of a Somali woman with breast cancer if statistics show its that common.

Infact… how come we hear almost no cases of lung, kidney, bowel etc or any other cancer within the Somali community…



I believe our culture makes us feel embarrassed about such illnesses and they simply say such and such a person “UU Xanuun qaba” (their just unwell)

You all misunderstood the brother. I also never seen Somali woman with breast cancer.Its either that Somali woman are unaware of the disease or the number (statistics) of breast cancer cases are wrong.

Yes a family member of mine had died of cancer..So yes Somalis are effected by this.

Oxy..... Somalis are not as "evolved" as cadaans. Most of the times they r NOT diagnosed and other times they just plain old LIE. In Africa, i understand, nowadays there is a rampant increase of cancer among somalis. Not the cancer u know it or the educated, informed world knows about it, it is the cancer called AIDS.


Apparently, it is easier to say cancer than aids in africa.


But there is a legitimate foundings that somalis do not get these terminal serious diseases that the west get. I strongly believe, africans, somalis included have a better immune systems than the average white people. Somalis mostly die of the side effects of diabetes and blood presure. (which is directly linked to their high sokor consumption, diet, and obesity rate) Thats the most common killer among somalis. Stuff like skin cancer, breast cancer is directly linked to the anglo--cadaan people and their weak immune systems.

I don't know where you live, but I've seen and heard of many Somali women with cancer. In the last 8 yrs, three of my grandfathers sisters (AUN) have died of cancer ( and they all lived in The West).

i have seen/heard somali people with cancer. not breast cancer exactly. but yh somalis are just like other people, they do have their share of illnesses, or example Aids/HIV and so many other ones. but maybe not as much as other people. ilaahay hanaga indha saabo.

Yes there so many Somalis that are diagnosed with cancer..That is in the West..There was even this family I know who both the parents died of cancer in the same month, few yrs ago. They left behind three small kids..Both were in mid 30s. It was a very very sad day. That happened Rochester.

Besides, before we (Somalis) could not tell which one has cancer or not, due to lack of technology and doctors..all we said was "Hebel bes buu u dhintey" Or Kud baa diley"

Now days people are seen with lots of tongue and mouth cancer due to the toxic waste that is dumped into our lawless country.

Joking aside, one reason that breast cancer is not common among Somali women is that they are good at breast feeding. The longer mothers breast-feed, and the younger they begin, the more they lower their risk of getting breast cancer before menopause, a college proffessor taught us .
