I don't give a damn anymore. I just want Somalia back to the way it used to be in the 70s and 80s. PEACEFUL!

Re: Do you prefer a Secular Somalia?
As much as it pains me to say it, I will have to say YES to your question. We’ve gone too far down the Islamic route and risk damaging the whole faith if we insist on pushing things further.
For now and until peace prevails over the land, I believe a secular model should be applied. The government may run the country along secular lines but it still would not mean that the people (or groups of people) couldn’t practice the faith privately. It is what we do in the West and, we are not doing too badly, are we? In fact, the advantage the people of Somalia will have over us will be that the will not have to contend with the hostile media or random laws we have to deal with on a daily basis.
In time, when no guns are heard and people have the luxury of electing their own president and parliament, there would be (hopefully) nothing stopping someone from campaigning on an Islamic basis!
This is the lesser of two evils and the only rationale choice we have. If we leave things as they are, who is to say that we will not back the wrong side? Both main warring factions shout Allah Akbar as they lop their bullets over the walls they hide behind. Both quote the holy book and the sayings of the prophet. Both claim to be as Muslim and pure as the Isha prayers! But one of them MUST be wrong. Who? I can’t, for the life of me, decide and therefore I would feel safer and more comfortable with a secular government until these oafs sort themselves out.
How is that for reasons?

Re: Do you prefer a Secular Somalia?
Hell NO! My reasons; it's secularism that has led Somalia to its sad predicament. Somalia underwent so-called democracy, dictatorship, communism, Marxism & socialism. All those secular systems of governance caused injustice, inequality, discrimination, stratification, mismanagement, greediness, corruption, massacre, genocide, etc. Somalis know the only system left that can successfully work for them.Executive wrote:Do you prefer a Secular Somalia?

Re: Do you prefer a Secular Somalia?
Somalia was never a secular state. A secular state is a state which puts a curtain on religion.
The foundation of Somalia's law system from Independence to now has been Islamic based BECAUSE Islam is the foundation of Somali culture.

Re: Do you prefer a Secular Somalia?
You're mistaken. During the 1970's, Somalia's president introduced secular laws giving women the right to inherit equally with men. Those laws contradicted with the teachings of Islam. And when Muslim scholars objected to those laws, they were executed.Voltage wrote:Somalia was never a secular state. A secular state is a state which puts a curtain on religion.

Have you studied that law or you are going by what I call the "I-never-read-or-studied-or-did-research-but-basing-it-of-off-what-illiterate-people-changed-it-to" syndrome?AR1223 wrote:You're mistaken.
