New HIV strain discovered in africa

Post by Diyeeshaha_Tolka »

A new strain of the virus that causes Aids has been discovered in a woman from the West African nation of Cameroon.

The virus strain appears to come from gorillas but researchers said the woman has likely been infected by another human, not an animal.

"We have identified a new human immunodeficiency virus in a Cameroonian woman", Jean-Christophe Plantier of the Universite de Rouen in France wrote together with his colleagues in the journal Nature Medicine on Sunday.

"It is closely related to gorilla simian immunodeficiency virus and shows no evidence of recombination with other HIV-1 lineages..."

The 62-year-old woman had no contact with gorillas but said she had had several sex partners.

She was diagnosed with HIV in 2004, soon after she moved to France from Cameroon.

Routine genetic sequencing of the virus showed it looked like no other sample of HIV virus and it was eventually compared to a gorilla simian immunodeficiency virus which was discovered in 2006.

Source

All previously discovered subtypes of the virus have been linked to chimpanzees.

"Our findings indicate that gorillas, in addition to chimpanzees, are likely sources of HIV-1," Plantier's team wrote.

"The discovery of this novel HIV-1 lineage highlights the continuing need to watch closely for the emergence of new HIV variants, particularly in western central Africa, the origin of all existing HIV-1 groups."

There are several theories seeking to explain how SIV, the equivalent of HIV in apes, entered humans.

Scientists say it likely jumped to people hunting chimps. Either an infected ape bit a human, or a SIV-infected animal was killed for bush meat, and the virus entered the
bloodstream of the butcher through tiny cuts in the hand.

HIV has infected an estimated 33 million people globally and has killed another 25 million.

Diyeeshaha_Tolka ...What makes u think ..."US" Somalis are interested in this news? I mean, i know for your condition' its interesting, but for us its irrelevant.

However.... Reading the article, i have concluded that one of the two major HIV origin theories might be confirmed. These two major theories are conspiracies, but sensible nevertheless. One of course was that HIV originated in the lab of a mad american homophobic scientist or us government if you will to irradicate homosexuals in san fransisco. Second was that it originated from from the apes of africa. I am afraid the latter now makes sense. :| These adoons who eat "Bush Meat" --meaning derived meat from gorillas and apes are responsible for aids. Now how can this 62 yo cameroon woman have new strain of HIV, same strain that resemble the known simian ape hiv which have been prooved harmless to the apes immunine system. Apparently, this new strain is not harmful to the woman as well. And she was never exposed to bush meat or bitten by these gorrillas. Is it inbon in her DNA just like the apes?? Isnt this bizarre? Long time ago, i read an article about a woman in mombasa, kenya, she had hiv that was not harming her body. She was a carrier yes, but not harmful to herself. Scientists were buffled at this idea and puzzled. The woman had ape like facial features, u know adoons like the western africa. (Broad ape like Oprah nose, wide strong ape jaws, etc etc) This then leads me to believe--adoons r direct descendants of apes.Man has evolved from ape to modern man?And with the knowledge of life first began in africa, this can make sense. But there is somewhere in Quran where some humans were cursed by a certain prophet and turned apes. Could adoons be descendants of such apes? I am puzzled. :|

Big B,

Sometimes you blow me completely out of the water, and this is one of them. Hold on to those thoughts. There IS a religiously acceptable explanation in there somewhere!

Four simian-related strains come out of central-west Africa and we need a conspiracy theory to explain it? :P

I need to point out here that I view evolution as one of God's tools. That said, yes, it was the evolution.

Also, there have been those here who have been quick to blame HIV on a White conspiracy to wipe out Africans. I am surprised and please to note a change in orientation!

Point well noted. However, what do you mean by one of Gods tools? Are you suggesting there is a possibility of the co-existing of evolution and religion in the same breath?

*Ahem*...Ok...Grant, i am sure this is a semi--"also" note to comouglage your overall enthusiam on the evolution point. That agreed upon, why do u find pleasure in me vindicating the white race of concucting HIV and bringing it to africa? Are you a racist Grant?

Well in that case. will u support my own "Basra" theory? That the first man according to Quran- prophet Adam had the resemblance of Ape? (Istaqfurulaah if i am diabolically incorrect) Ok perhaps Ape is not the right term, but say...he resembled a rather less..modern-like today man. Therefore, as time progressed, man evolved, of course predicated by climate, geography , environment, diet and sophisication living style. That finally man blosssomed into the fragile delicate human-man today nameed--'Gentlemen & Gentlewomen"?Grant is this your idea of co-existint suggestions? Thereby, In this concept ,the presevation of religion being Allaah created man and earth is maintained while evolution theory upheld as a minor consequences of Allaah's overall creationism. In this case- basically- while acknowledging Darwins evolution theory as being factually or Metaphor-singly correct, we simutaneously acknowledge Darwins lack of acknowledging God in his best sellor book of evolution and giving credit, where credit was due???? :|

B,

That works for me. 8-)

I note that children are never the same as their parents. Each fingerprint is unique, even among clones. The reproductive mechanism just does not reproduce beings exactly, so there has to be some drift.

This does NOT exclude God from the equation.

of course this does not remove God from the equation. God or Allaah is the ultimate creator of the original clone? Therefore, we can assume it is God's intention for his creation to evolve through reproductions? Given that in the day of judgement, these fingers prints that r unique in all his creation would on the day of judgement serve as an identification number. (PS: Funny that in Quran the desimilarity of finger prints is mentioned numerously lol)

Grant,

Evolution - that is to say man evolved from apes - has a major flaw. If this is a slow process occurring over millions of years, then we would expect to find the earth littered with fossils of intermediary beings. Since you don't go from ape to man overnight, there should be ample evidence in the form of fossils that we evolved from apes.

Evolution requires even more faith than evolution.
