Hundreds of People mostly women and children have gathered at “Mire Aware” Football Stadium of Garowe to show their abhorrence to the Female Genital Mutilation(FGM)

This was an awareness campaign which collectively organised by TOSTAN international and Puntland’s women affairs ministry.

Interior minister of Puntland, Governor of Nugal Region and representatives of Some UN agencies have appeared in the gathering

Abdi Hersi Qarjab, Nugal’s governor told to the people that FGM is prohibited in Islam, and it is illegal to cut or to injure the female genital Organs

He said that the people of Nugal had shown a great cooperation and commitment on anti-FGM campaigns and he said this step had reduced FGM.
Gen.Abdullahi Ahmed Jama , interior minister of Puntland said that FGM has serious long term health effects and the society should fight it every time. He also encouraged to Puntland and TOSTAN international to expand this campaign through Puntland particularly remote villages.

Hawo Osman a renowned community representative narrated the historic background of FGM in Nugal and its health risks. She said this campaign had been going on since 2006 , from that time till now she said the people of Nugal understood more about FGM and most of Nugal region was eradicated from FGM.
