Woman 'kidnaps and cuts open pregnant woman she met at a homeless shelter in bid to steal her baby'
By Mail Foreign Service
11th December 2009
A pregnant woman locked up for five days by a woman she met at a homeless shelter escaped after her captor tried to cut the unborn baby from her womb.
The victim was expected to recover after her daughter, who she named Miracle, was delivered by emergency Cesarean section, police in Virginia, in the US, said.
Veronica Deramous, 40, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, false imprisonment and other related charges.
Authorities said Deramous befriended Teka Adams at a homeless shelter in Maryland and persuaded her to come to her apartment on December 1 with a promise of baby clothes.
Once there, Deramous attacked and bound the 29-year-old, who was in her third trimester.
'She bound the victim's hands and proceeded to try to cut the victim's abdomen to try to get the baby out,' police said. They say Deramous had told relatives and her boyfriend that she was pregnant even though she was not.
In the apartment where the alleged attack occurred, officers found bloody towels and a bowl with water and washcloths on a bedroom floor. They also found a box cutter and razor blades, which they believe Deramous used to cut Adams.
According to the police report, Deramous had her 17-year-old son hold Adams' hands behind her back as she bound her with duct tape and then held her in a bedroom. Her son has not been charged.
A police report quotes Deramous as telling Adams: 'You're strong, you can handle what I'm going to do to you.' She then turned up the volume of the TV in the bedroom, gagged Adams and began to cut her abdomen open. Adams moaned in pain and Deramous stopped, police said.
While Deramous slept early on Sunday, December 6, Adams managed to free herself and flee the apartment. A neighbour called police, who found her bleeding in the apartment complex parking lot.
Deramous and her son fled, before a tip-off led police to neighbouring Virginia, where they were arrested.
A nun who answered the phone at the Queen of Peace, Missionaries of Charity shelter for pregnant women in southeast Washington said the victim had stayed there for at least one month and left the shelter last week, but did not know Deramous.
Adams has named her baby girl Miracle Sky. The county Department of Social Services said it was accepting donations on behalf of the family, including clothing and money, after receiving several calls on Tuesday from those wanting to help.

Re: WOMAN 'KIDNAPS AND CUTS OPEN PREGNANT WOMAN..TO STEAL BABY
Sadly this story is very common, not what I thought, I heard about an incident like this a couple years ago, and I thought it can't happen twice this short time. but no, after I searched it on google there are hundreds of stories that are happening every other year like this, all done by psycho women desparate for a baby, you know they could a dopt one.
For example, this story in the Telegraph by a white women

Woman Steals Baby From Womb
Andrea Curry-Demus is accused of murdering a woman and removing her child. Police are trying to identify the dead woman. But this is not the first time that Curry-Demus has tried to steal a baby after suffering a miscarriage. After suffering an earlier miscarriage in 1990, she attacked a woman who had just given birth and tried to steal her baby at knife point. Then the next day, she befriended the mother of a hospitalized newborn and stole that baby when the mother went home for the night. The baby was found unharmed at Curry-Demus' home the next day. She served seven years in prison and was on 10 years probation. You think that her family would have been on the look out for unusual behavior when she told them she was pregnant this time.
