A court hearing started in the town of Mandhera, located along the main road between Hargeisa and Berbera towns in republic of Somaliland for ten people accused of masterminding the killing senior military officer in Las Anod town, the administrative capital of disputed Sool Region.

The ten include five Las Anod natives, two Ethiopians, an Eritrean man and a Sudanese.

Prosecutor Adan Salad Sheikh said the men were held in connection with a deadly explosion that killed Somaliland’s 12 battalion commander Osman Yussuf Nur in November 2009 in the disputed town.

However, defense lawyers refuted those claims.

The accused including Abdirashid Ahmed Warsame, a well-known businessman and former lawmaker serving the parliament of Somalia’s semi-autonomous state of Puntland.

The hearing of the case is expected to continue in the coming days.
